Woodford Folk Festival: An Iconic Summer Celebration

'Folk means people and Woodford offers the honest music of the people of most parts of the globe. Another definition might be that it's a temporary city in the humid rain forest where people co-exist for the sake of listening to that music. Any way you look at it the range and mass of art and audience at Woodford is unique in the Aussie festival scene. I enjoy attending Woodford because there are always surprise gems like a sitarist playing by candlelight or Canadian maritime music around a campfire. The organisers are music lovers foremost and put their hearts into it.' Brian Ritchie, Violent Femmes

Woodford Folk Festival is one of Australia's most iconic annual events and returns for its 29th year – from 27 December 2014 to 1 January 2015. This 'festival of festivals' which is held in Queensland's Sunshine Coast hinterland, is Australia's largest gathering of artists and musicians and explores the full breadth and depth of cultural, artistic, social and food diversity the country has to offer.

Woodford Folk Festival is held on a 500-acre environmental parkland, on Jinibara Country, just over one hour's drive north of Brisbane, at the beautifully created “Woodfordia” village site. Immerse yourself in the beautiful natural environment for a memorable day trip or experience a week long camping adventure. The hidden valley is transformed into a magical village Bazaar with 35 performance venues (most are indoor) that range in size from intimate cafés to a large outdoor 25,000 seat amphitheatre plus stalls, bars, street theatre and parades. Tree-filled grounds, butterfly walks, ponds and wildlife complete the picturesque site.

'Anyone who comes to Woodford should feel there is a programme that was made just with them in mind, no matter what age, interest, musical persuasion or place they've come from. If the real world has beaten you down during the year, we hope we have created a programme that provides opportunity for rejuvenation, play and a reset for the year ahead. If you are a seeker, we hope we offer a programme to discuss, explore, observe, and participate in new experiences in an environment amongst positively-minded fellow patrons. If your idea of the festival season is simply for fun, sharing with friends and listening to some of the best music in the world, we reckon we've found those acts - you're going to have a ball.' Festival Director, Bill Hauritz
