The new $15m terminal at the Port of Airlie sets a new standard for maritime experiences, not only for Airlie Beach but Australia and it's surrounding South Pacific region.
Chief Executive Officer Nick Hortle said the terminal had been almost 2 years in the planning before construction commenced in February this year.
"The new terminal has been designed to provide a seamless and comfortable experience for visitors to the region travelling to the Whitsunday Islands and Great Barrier Reef," Mr Hortle said.
"We have airport style check-in counters and the luggage of travellers checking in for island resorts will travel via baggage carousel through to our Porters to load directly onto our boats. There is indoor and outdoor seating all making the most of the water views providing a comfortable place for guests to wait for their departure, or for locals to come for lunch. This is a truly impressive welcoming statement for tourists to the area, and an excellent base for launching day cruises and resort connections from the Whitsunday coast. We believe the new terminal will benefit everyone in the region," he said.
With Port of Airlie being so conveniently located in the centre of town, it will be an easy walk for guests from most Airlie Beach hotels and accommodation. However there is also easy access to the bus stop, bus terminal, taxi access, and a new 170 space car park right next to our terminal building.
