Baltimore joins the likes of Rio De Janeiro, Hong Kong and Sydney on a new list of the world’s Top 15 Waterfront Cities, published by Fodor Travel.
There are cities in the United States the other two on the list – New Orleans and San Francisco.
Laurie Schwartz, Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore President says WNEW Baltimore Bureau Chief Sarah Jacobs that “Baltimore is the recognized world leader in the reconstruction by the sea.”
In the early ’80s, Harborplace and the National Aquarium opened and “started a whole new tourist industry which, in turn, the leaders did not believe it was possible,” says Schwartz.
Baltimore then expanded on that early success to build a strong tourism industry by the sea.
Now, Convention Center, Oriole Park at Camden Yards, hotels and Harbor East neighborhood, also pepper the water district.
About Baltimore Fodor voices:
"A bustling harbor and lively downtown area make Baltimore a favorite destination among tourists. Walk down Charles Street to explore Inner Harbor, Baltimore’s main thoroughfare. Visitors can sign up for sailboat tours and boat rentals, or browse exhibits at the National Aquarium or Science Center. End the day watching the sunset over the water at The Rusty Scupper, a popular local seafood restaurant famous for its jumbo lump crab cake—a Baltimore specialty.”
