Jetstar seems to be the latest victim of online pranksters. Thousands of Facebook users were duped after falling for a competition that was put up on a fake Facebook page of the carrier promising the winners 200 free airfares and five-star accommodation in Fiji for two weeks.
“Great news, we’re giving away 5 tickets each to 40 people for a 2 week trip to Fiji in a 5 star hotel with $4,500 spending money,” the only post on the “Jetstar Australia.” page said.
In order to participate, the page asked visitors to like and share the photo posted on the page. The page garnered 19000 ‘likes’ within a day since it was set up.
This is not the first time that Jetstar was subjected to internet hoax. A few weeks ago the carrier reported 14 fake Jetstar Facebook pages floating around on Facebook with each one offering lucrative deals and free trips to users.
“Before you like and share something on Facebook check that it’s not a scam,” the airline said.
