Victoria: Funding for Regional Tourism Events

Seventy five thousand dollars has been allocated to support 28 regional events under the latest round of the Coalition Government’s Country Victoria Events Program.

Announcing the grants, Minister for Tourism and Major Events Louise Asher today said the funding is an important part of the Coalition Government’s ongoing commitment to supporting Victoria’s growing regional tourism industry.

“Tourism plays a significant role in the economic development of regional Victoria. It is worth $10.9 billion to regional Victoria and employs almost about 110,000 people,” Ms Asher said.

Ms Asher said the Country Victoria Events Program targets smaller regional events to enable local tourism and community groups to promote their region, grow visitor numbers and importantly, extend the length of stay in regional centres.

The funding will also have flow-on effects to the local accommodation, retail and hospitality industries, meaning local small businesses will also receive a boost.”

Events to receive funding support include the Peninsula Short Film Festival, the Rushworth Easter Heritage Festival, the Horsham Country Music Festival, Woodend Children’s Festival, Highland Games at Amulet, Walhalla Vinter Ljustfest, Weekend Fit for a King Wine and Food Festival, Tour of the South West, the Tastes of Central Geelong and Motor City Music Festival in Geelong.

The Country Victoria Events Program provides up to $10,000 to assist with tourism marketing and event delivery and development.
