Milestone for Elm Cottage

Set in the foothills of Kosciuszko National Park, on the banks of the pristine Goobarragandra River, Elm Cottage opened for business in 2004 with very little fanfare.

Since that time, however, Elm Cottage has quickly gained the reputation both locally and internationally as a high end, four-and-a-half star self-catering accommodation – a first for the Tumut Region.

Elm Cottage had many doubters who said the business wouldn’t survive. Yet, after 10 years with an annual growth rate of over 12%, Elm Cottage has become a multi-award winning showpiece for the region and continues to excel in quality customer service and accommodation.

Owners Deborah and David Sheldon attribute much of their success to a balanced business plan with realistic budgets and some ‘fantastic’ assistance from Tourism Snowy Mountains, the National Parks and Wildlife Services (through Mark Lees). These groups have partnered with Elm Cottage in highly successful, joint promotional activities.

Destination NSW has also been in an integral partner in the journey.

“Destination NSW has provided us with business aids, workshops and partnership programs that have been invaluable in our growth and played a vital role in the local visitor economy,” said Mr Sheldon.

“In Elm Cottage’s 10th year, it’s time to celebrate – in line with Destination NSW’s digital marketing focus, Elm Cottage will be releasing a new website highlighting the destination,” Mr Sheldon said.

“Everyone’s got a bed but how many people have the experiences and adventures offered by Kosciuszko National Park and our waterways (20 times the size of Sydney Harbour) in their backyard?

“Most of our guests are planning their next adventure to this neck of the woods before they even leave.”
