Peru’s Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu Tops List of Landmark Destinations

Travel website TripAdvisor has announced that Peru’s famed Inca citadel of Machu Picchu tops its list of landmark destinations in the world.

The Unesco World Heritage site and one of the new Seven Wonders of the World ranked first on a list of Top 25 Landmarks in the 2013 TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice awards.

It was followed by Angkor Wat Temple in Cambodia, Taj Mahal in India, Petra World Heritage Site in Jordan, and Bayon Temple in Cambodia.

Rounding up the top ten spots were Great Cathedral and Mosque in Spain, Church of our Savior on Spilled Blood in Russia, St’s Peter Basilica in Italy, Ancient City Walls in Croatia, and Main Marquet Square in Poland.

Situated 110 km northwest of Cusco, Machu Picchu was previously named top landmark destination in the world according to a similar ranking published in June 2013 by TripAdvisor.
