Chiang Rai province, in the North, is now ready to welcome more visitors during the cool season, which is also the high season for tourism in Thailand. From now until the end of February, the province offers opportunities for visitors to experience a spectacle of colorful flowers in full bloom.
It is scheduled to hold the Chiang Rai ASEAN Flower Festival 2013, from 20 December 2013 to 5 January 2014.
The 17-day event is the second of its kind. The first Chiang Rai ASEAN Flower Festival took place in 2012 and attracted many visitors. It is expected that the upcoming festival will receive great attention from masses of tourists and local people, as well.
The Chiang Rai ASEAN Flower Festival is held in a space along the Kok River, near the Chiang Rai Government Complex in Mueang district. The festival grounds cover more than 40 acres (100 rai). Out of this area, eight acres (20 rai) are for displays of temperate flowers.
The festival features flower processions, flower gardens, a Miss ASEAN contest, light performances, sales of OTOP products and flowering and decorative plants, and the 2014 New Year countdown. The sacred tooth relic of the Buddha from Bhutan will be enshrined temporarily at the venue for visitors to pay homage to. Local food in the Lanna style will also be offered.
Located 785 kilometers from Bangkok, Chiang Rai has many unique charms among its fascinating sights. The province is noted for its landscape of mountains, forests, and a wide range of tourist attractions. The period from November to February usually brings a cold spell over the northern part of the country. It is considered the best time to visit Chiang Rai to appreciate the natural beauty and explore amazing sites.
