Tenacious climber and 2013 Santos Tour Down Under mountains classification winner Javier Moreno will return to the race next month with his fellow Movistar Team riders.
Moreno, who came second in this year’s edition of the Santos Tour Down Under, went on to finish first at the 2013 Vuelta a la Comunidad de Madrid and took third place overall at the Vuelta a Asturias.
Santos Tour Down Under race director Mike Turtur said Movistar Team was going from strength to strength.
“Spain has traditionally produced very impressive cyclists, and its climate and terrain are good preparation for the challenges of the Santos Tour Down Under,” Mr Turtur said.
“In 2014 we can look forward to seeing the peloton tackle climbs such as Menglers Hill in the Barossa and Corkscrew Hill on Adelaide’s fringe.
“Movistar Team’s lineup includes Giovanni Visconti, who won two Giro d’Italia stages in 2013 and is set for another strong season.”
José Joaquín Rojas is also among Movistar Team riders preparing to compete at the Santos Tour Down Under.
“Rojas finished 79th overall at the 2013 Tour de France – one of the highest placings among GC riders and ahead of cyclists including Peter Sagan and Mark Cavendish,” Mr Turtur said.
“He’s an impressive sprinter who really knows how to turn on the power and it will be great to see him pushing to the finish alongside top riders from around the world.”
The Movistar Team competing at the 2014 Santos Tour Down Under will be led by manager Jose Luis Arrieta and includes riders Imanol Erviti Ollo (Spain), Jose Ivan Gutierrez (Spain), Juan José Lobato Del Valle (Spain), Giovanni Visconti (Italy), Javier Moreno (Spain), Ruben Plaza Molina (Spain) and Jose Joaquin Rojas (Spain).
The Santos Tour Down Under will be held in Adelaide and regional South Australia from 19-26 January 2014.
