Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa, Australia’s luxury conservation-based resort, is among the honourees of the internationally acclaimed Travel + Leisure 2013 Global Vision Awards in the category of Sustainability for its trailblazing initiatives in sustainability and conservation.
Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa is the only Australian tourism product to be recognised in the Travel + Leisure 2013 Global Vision Awards. Introduced in 2005, the annual awards recognise the outstanding efforts of individuals and organisations in the travel industry that are working to save the world's natural and man-made treasures – by preserving cultural heritage, conserving environments, or giving back to the communities that travellers visit.
The Travel + Leisure 2013 Global Vision Awards are featured in the November issue of Travel + Leisure and on www.TravelandLeisure.com
“We are tremendously honoured to be presented with a Global Vision Award in Sustainability. At Wolgan Valley we pride ourselves on our ongoing commitment to conservation and continuously go above and beyond to protect the natural environment,” said Joost Heymeijer, General Manager, Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa.
“As an industry leader in nature-based conservation, we are proud to prove every day that it is possible to combine a luxury tourism product with a wilderness area, and achieve a positive outcome for both. When we opened in 2009 we were the only carbon neutral certified resort in the world, and we have maintained our carbon neutral status each year.”
Located three hours’ drive from Sydney in the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area, the resort is set on 4,000 acres of conservation and wildlife reserve and nestled between two national parks. The resort has earned its green credentials through being fully integrated into its environment, supporting wide-ranging conservation practices which focus on protecting endangered native species, as well as through ecologically sustainable design principles. So far, more than 200,000 trees and shrubs have been planted across the property alone, aiming to restore the native vegetation, prevent erosion and enhance biodiversity.
Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa was presented with the internationally recognised World Saver Award by Condé Nast Traveler in both 2012 and 2011, and has received many accolades for its conservation work in Australia including most recently at the 2013 HM Awards, which awarded the resort with Environmental Progam of the Year. Recently awarded a Certificate of Excellence by TripAdvisor® -- which puts the resort in the top 10% of all hotels in the world based on traveller feedback – Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa was also named the Best Hotel in Australia, 2013, by TripAdvisor®.
