The Noosa Triathlon Multi-Sport Festival for 2013 kicks off on Wednesday October 30. The five-day event features running, swimming and cycling events over five days, finishing with the Noosa Triathlon - the world's 2nd largest triathlon - on Sunday.
Peter Sagan, widely considered the world’s most entertaining cyclist, will be the star attraction at the Subaru Australian Open Criterium in Noosa, on Saturday 2 November.
The long list of victories already amassed by the 23-year-old, including back-to-back green jerseys along with four individual stages at the Tour de France, has earned him the nickname The Termination.
Sagan will be joined in Noosa by his Cannondale teammates Juraj Sagan, his older brother, and Cameron Wurf.
Wurf says, “Peter is type of sportsman kids idolize”.
“There is no rider like him in the bunch. Not only does he win but his successes brings a huge amount of enjoyment for all those watching”, the Tasmanian said.
“Kids love a winner and they dream of one day doing the same. But Peter not only wins a truckload of races he also does it by showing so much excitement with each win. He really celebrates every success like it’s his first.
“His showmanship has without a doubt helped to make the sport of professional cycling more fun”.
Andrew Caie, Subaru General Manager Marketing, says having Sagan in Noosa is a great opportunity to showcase cycling.
“The more energy and personality guys like Peter bring to the sport, the more people will want to watch it”, Caie says. “Plus having Peter here will help people appreciate how good our local talent is, which is important to growing the appeal of cycling in Australia.
“Having Peter here is also a great way for our young kids to get a sense of what it’s like to be a part of the big wide world of the professional cycling as it appears in Europe.”
The criterium forms part of the Noosa Tri Multi Sport Festival with previous winners including Robbie McEwen, Allan Davis and Jonathan Cantwell.
The race will also include a strong contingent of Australia’s international stars along with some of the best from the Subaru National Road Series.
Held on a tight 'hot dog' circuit along Noosa Parade the race attracts a 20,000 strong crowd, which with the presence of Peter Sagan is expected to be even bigger this year.
