Christmas Windows Delight All Ages

For many years a favourite pastime in the days leading up to Christmas is to take the family to see the Christmas Window Displays at David Jones Department store in the heart of Sydney NSW Australia.

Each year a different theme is chosen, and this year in 2011 the Christmas Story is being told through Christmas Carols

Moving marionette puppets are used to illustrate the Christmas Carols, which  include We Wish You a Merry Christmas, Twelve Days of Christmas, Little Drummer Boy, While Shepherds Watch Their Flock By Night, Silent Night and We Three Kings of Orient.

Puppeteer David Poulton said it took five artists six months to create the mechanical puppet theatre displays and a couple of weeks to install them. His company Promotions in Motion has been making the David Jones Christmas window displays for the past six years. "What I like best is the joy they bring to people," Mr Poulton said.

The Christmas Windows on display at the Elizabeth Street David Jones store were unveiled at the beginning of November and will remain on display until Christmas Day. Take a moment or two out from your Christmas shopping and admire these beautiful windows.
