Newington Armory Heritage Railway Discovery Tour

Get on board the Heritage Train and enjoy an explosive trip around the historic Armory Buildings as your guide explains the reasons for various building designs and usage.

Jump aboard to see how wartime workers moved bombs, bullets and armament around the historic Newington Armory site in Sydney, NSW Australia.

Newington Armory was once the Royal Australian Navy Armament Depot, storing volatile ammunition including depth charges, torpedoes and explosive shells. This informative tour on board the heritage-listed electric railway shows how wartime workers moved bombs, bullets and armament around the historic site.

Listen to the guide explain the reasons for various building designs and usage, and explore the armament display up close, in what is still a restricted-access building. Find out how the potentially dangerous cargo was stored and protected.

This unique small-gauge electric railway runs for a 70-minute tour (3.5 kms) includes a full commentary, taking in protected wetlands and remnant forest not usually accessible to visitors.
