Thailand Travel Mart Plus (TTM+) 2024 opens for registration

On from 5-7 June in Khao Lak, Phang-nga, this year’s edition of Thailand’s leading B2B travel industry show is expected to welcome more than 920 participants.

Thailand’s leading B2B travel industry show, the Thailand Travel Mart Plus (TTM+) 2024, is scheduled to be held on 5-7 June at JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort and Spa in Khao Lak, Phang-nga. Online registrations for buyers and sellers will open on 9 February via the official website www.thailandtravelmartplus.com.

Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, said “This year’s edition of TTM+ will continue its well-established position as the premier showcase of Thai tourism. Buyers and sellers will come together and build on existing business partnerships and forge new ones. Equally important, the event will shine a spotlight on the transformation of Thai tourism towards more meaningful travel with a focus on high-value and sustainable tourism. TTM+2024 is expected to create around 15,000 business appointments, generating over 2 billion Baht”

The TTM+ 2024 is expected to welcome more than 950 participants. This includes 420 buyers from 50 countries, representing key source markets – Europe, ASEAN, East Asia, America, and Australia – and emerging markets – Eastern Europe, the Middle East, South America, and South Africa.

About 430 sellers from the Central, Eastern, Northern, Northeastern (Isan), and Southern regions of Thailand will showcase a plethora of tourism products and services, including a multitude of meaningful travel experiences that illustrate Thailand’s 5F soft-power foundations – Food, Film, Festival, Fight, and Fashion – and a vast array of sustainable tourism opportunities.

Mr. Siripakorn Cheawsamoot, TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas, said “TAT will exert every effort to ensure that the TTM+ 2024 yields substantial results for all participants as well as the host destination and local tourism industry partners. This year, TTM+ will be focussed on sustainability, offering discounts to Thai sellers who operate their businesses sustainably. Other than buyers that are coming from the major markets like Europe, Americas, East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Australia, TAT expects to see buyers from new markets such as Eastern Europe, the Middle East, South America, and South Africa, and buyers who are new to Thailand.”

The programme for the TTM+ 2024 will include the registration, opening ceremony, TTM Talk, Thailand Product Update, on-site appointment session, and welcome reception on 5 June, and two full days of buyer/seller appointments on 6-7 June. There will be pre-tours of Phang-nga highlighting wellness, soft adventure, and sustainability, as well as post-tours to explore various destinations in five regions of Thailand.

TAT is organising the TTM+ 2024 in partnership with Phang-nga Province, the Phang-nga Tourism Association, tourism-related associations and clubs, and the public and private sectors in post-tour destinations.

Mr. Supoj Rodruang Na Nongkhai, Governor of Phang-nga Province, said, “We are ready to welcome all participants attending the TTM+ 2024 with all measures in place to facilitate smooth travel. The tourism sector is one of the most important income generators for Phang-nga.”

The idyllic Southern Thai beach resort of Phang-nga is 788 kilometres south of Bangkok and about an hour’s drive from Phuket International Airport. The province boasts stunning geographic features, including three national parks – Ao Phang Nga, Mu Ko Surin, and Mu Ko Similan, a famous fishing village – Ko Panyi, a cave known for its stalagmites and stalactites – Tham Phung Chang, a whitewater rafting adventure on the Song Phraek River, and the beautiful Khao Lak Beach.

The TTM+ 2024 is expected to gain numerous exposure from some 100 local and international media expected to attend the event.

About the TTM+

First held in 2001, the TTM+ has gained a well-earned reputation in visitor source markets worldwide and in Thailand’s tourism industry as a ‘must-attend’ event.

This year, in its 21st edition, the TTM+ 2024 is all set to continue the tradition of providing a valuable platform for sellers and buyers to meet with current and potential business partners and to reinforce relationships with global travel specialists and decision-makers.

Since its launch, the TTM+ took place mainly in Bangkok each year. It was relocated to Chiang Mai in 2016 – 17, Pattaya in 2018 – 19, Phuket in 2022, and Bangkok in 2023 as part of the TAT’s strategy to promote provincial destinations.

Sailaway Port Douglas

Tropical North Queensland is the most eco-certified destination in Australia with 72 active eco-certified companies and 27 businesses undertaking the process with Ecotourism Australia. Tourism Tropical North Queensland is consulting with all sectors of the tourism industry including accommodation, tour operators, hospitality venues and Indigenous groups to develop sector-specific strategies that will guide the tourism industry to achieving Net Zero before 2050. Tropical North Queensland is one of two regions in Queensland selected to undertake phase 2 of the Queensland Tourism Climate Action Plan providing carbon benchmark data and recommended pathways after completing phase 1.

Here are the latest initiatives in the region.

Tropic Wings is set to revolutionise its fleet with the introduction of 12 cutting-edge Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). The estimated total project costs $10.2 million, with $4.75 million secured from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). In January 2024, Tropic Wings announced the introduction of the first of their first three Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) as a groundbreaking initiative in their sustainable and tourism transport project. As the sole tour operator in Australia to integrate fully electric coaches into its tours, Tropic Wings is leading the industry in reducing carbon emissions and promoting eco-friendly travel. These new BEVs will be deployed for trips to iconic destinations such as the Daintree Rainforest, Mossman Gorge, and Kuranda, providing tourists with a unique and environmentally conscious travel experience.

Sailaway Port Douglas has introduced the Great Barrier Reef’s first electric glass-bottom boat at carbon-neutral Low Isles, just one hour from Port Douglas. Using renewable energy sources including wind and solar, the e-tender is used to shuttle guests to the island and for reef viewing tours with the Sailaway marine biologist. Sailaway is a Climate Action Leader and offsets carbon by contributing to reforesting in the local World Heritage rainforest.

Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort has become the first North Queensland resort to achieve Ecotourism Australia’s Sustainable Tourism Certification. Recognised for its commitment across environmental, social, cultural, and sustainable management aspects, the resort’s certification marks a significant achievement in international best-practice sustainability. Located at the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, the resort has implemented innovative solutions such as a biodiversity reef restoration program, a partnership with ecoSPIRITS, and an Indigenous employment scheme. The certification, launched by Ecotourism Australia in late 2023, highlights the growing demand for sustainable tourism experiences and encourages accommodations to lead in global sustainability standards.

Mt Mulligan Lodge, nestled in North Queensland's outback, has attained the prestigious Ecotourism Australia - Eco Certified Advanced Tourism accreditation, cementing its position as a leader in sustainable travel. The recognition highlights the lodge's commitment to minimising its ecological footprint, protecting local ecosystems, and engaging in responsible tourism practices. Guests can anticipate an immersive eco-friendly experience, surrounded by the untamed wilderness.

Cairns Airport is collecting food scraps and coffee grounds for local community gardens to grow more food as part of their Environmental Strategy. Initiatives like these led to Cairns Airport being crowned Airport of the Year twice in 2023, winning the Major Airport of the Year category at the Australian Airports Association (AAA) National Airport Industry Awards and being named Airport of the Year at the Australian Aviation Awards. Cairns Airport also took out the Airport Excellence Award for Sustainability for their Australia-first Sustainability Linked Loan agreement, which features a unique target committing to regenerating threatened species.

Knowing Darwin’s great love for country music, the Rock n Rodeo Muster has announced headline acts The Wolfe Brothers and Casey Barnes. Also on the bill is 2024 Golden Guitar Awards New Talent of the Year, Max Jackson, alongside local talents Stereobate and The Fame Junkies.

Spurred by the success of their wildly popular Northern Golden Buckle Series in 2023, Rodeo Promotions NT decided to create an even bigger and better rodeo experience.

The musical pairing of The Wolfe Brothers first charmed the public in 2012’s Australia’s Got Talent; the Tasmanian duo have been captivating audiences and collecting accolades ever since. Having completed a self-described apprenticeship under Australian country music legend Lee Kernaghan, the brothers have travelled countless miles across Australia, the US and Canada to ignite audiences with their high energy live shows.

Their 13-year reign has delivered four #1 ARIA Country albums, 19 #1 singles on the ARIA Country Music Chart, and nine Golden Guitars – three from the 2024 Country Music Awards for latest album, ‘Livin’ The Dream’.

Kee’s Beckons Guests To Savour Shared Moments at 21 Carpenter

Michelin-starred chef and Kee’s Culinary Director, Andrew Walsh, debuts his latest venture— Kee’s—located within heritage boutique hotel 21 Carpenter. Honouring the building’s past as Chye Hua Seng Wee Kee remittance house, coupled with a playful nod to its location between the two Quays of Clarke Quay and Boat Quay, the street-level venue aims to bring an energetic vibrancy to the neighbourhood. The menu focuses on modern European fare alongside a thoughtfully curated array of Pan-Asian dishes, expertly complemented by a selection of signature cocktails and a stellar wine list.

Award-winning architectural firm WOHA spearheads the design of the 71-seater Neo-Bistro & Bar, with the intention of creating a convivial atmosphere for guests to linger for longer from day to night. The venue showcases a contemporary design reminiscent of 1930s Art Deco banking halls, retaining original building materials like upcycled wooden joists framing huge windows. Juxtaposed to the heritage timber are futurist-inspired fabrics and leather lounges, marble, and metal meshes. Leveraging lighting, mirrors, and the interplay of day and night, WOHA ensures the space effortlessly transitions through differing vibes. Establishing the vibrancy of Kee’s are tunes by DJ Aldrin, who was the resident DJ at Zouk Singapore for 17 years.

The space is thoughtfully zoned to suit every mood. An open kitchen resides on an elevated platform, drawing guests' attention to the culinary action. The central bar serves as the heart of the space, while a softly glowing wine display lends an intimate setting at night.

To add to the property’s existing art collection put together by The Artling are two large-scale paintings, commissioned from artist Khairulddin Wahab, at Kee’s. Wahab is known for his brilliant use of colour to weave narratives from cultural geography. The main art piece, Visions of Splendour, draws inspiration from Singaporean immigrants who once walked through the halls of Chye Hua Seng Wee Kee, and offers a portrayal of colonial Singapore through their eyes.

In harmony with the versatile interior, Chef Walsh has crafted a menu that caters to every moment. Small plates prime patrons’ palates, including the Marinated Green Olives (V) with fennel seed and citrus peel, as well as the Tuna Tartare featuring Vietnamese & coconut dressing. The range of cold cuts on the Charcuterie Trio—available in half- and full-size options to cater to varying appetites—includes salami, chorizo, and 36-month jamón ibérico.

Ideal for a refreshing and light dining option is the Citrus Kale Salad (V), skillfully tossed in a blend of peanut brittle, pickled ginger, and a zesty lime dressing. Chef Walsh introduces a unique twist to the traditional Caesar salad with the Japanese Baby Gem Salad, incorporating a Japanese soft-boiled egg and white anchovies. Norwegian cold-water shrimp, known for its sweetness, takes centre stage in the Shrimp Cocktail, with herb avocado and prawn cracker.

Chef Walsh transforms a meal into a communal experience of flavours through heartier mains, such as the Wanderer Ribeye Steak Frites, served with pickled red onion, watercress and chimichurri. The Sunchoke Black Pepper Pappardelle (V) features freshly-made pasta in a flavourful truffle pecorino cream sauce, topped with a slow-cooked egg. Pan-Asian dishes also invite gourmands on a shared exploration of regional cuisine. A stand out is the Japanese Red Sea Bream, served with a herbaceous green curry emulsion and coconut rice. Slow-braised for 24 hours, the fork-tender Beef Cheek Rendang is complemented with a tangy housemade snake bean achar.

Sweet finishes feature interesting re-creations, including a Pistachio Cake with pistachio crumbs and housemade Madagascar vanilla ice cream. The Chocolate Mousse has a delicate cocoa tuile and a meringue made with Singapore’s beloved dessert ingredient, pandan.

The menu’s balance of small plates and sizable mains is complemented by a truly spirited beverage program. Craft cocktails tell the history of Singapore and the two quays through the use of exotic spices and fruits, which were once sold by peddlers on Carpenter Street in the 1930s.

Highlights include the Spice & Sips, which marries Los Arcos agave spirit and the lingering heat of chilli with the tropical sweet-sour punch of passionfruit. A symphony of flavour, Citrus Tales melds Widges gin and lemon bitters weaving in the richness of spiced pear liqueur, tangy-sweet mandarin sake, and a light fizz courtesy of ginger beer. Pretty in pink, the Rosé Spritz integrates an aromatic Rosé port, underscored by hints of wild berry and fruity notes of cherry and raspberry, with Canevel prosecco and the effervescence of tonic. Meanwhile, the Calamansi Melange is an invigorating drink, showcasing the warmth of Canerock spiced rum, the zing of calamansi, and a subtle sweetness from candied winter melon.

For non-alcoholic cocktails that are equally enjoyable, imbibe in the Nourbon Tonic, featuring zero-proof Gnista barreled oak, tonic and lime. Wine seekers can also explore a non-alcoholic option: the Non 8 Torched Apple & Oolong is a sophisticated blend made from orchard apples, caraway seeds, cacao nibs, oolong, keemun and verjus, and features a crisp flavour that’s perfect to pair with creamy or spicy dishes.

The incomparable Queenie van de Zandt returns with “a buffet of entertainment on lazy Susan” putting the fate of the show in the hands of the audience all in the surrounds of the beautiful Cataract Gorge. First Nations music theatre artist Brittany Shipway will open the show.

Award winning artist Natalie Gamsu will perform SHRAPNEL, an autobiographical evening of storytelling, music and a yearning to find her inner flamenco dancer in The Royal Oak Hotel.

CHOIR IN THE PUB returns to the Royal Oak Hotel this time with a trio of music theatre stars who have all headlined in LES MIS including Josh Piterman, direct from his portrayal of Jean Valjean in London’s West End, Patrice Tipoki, who played Fantine in the Australian tour and on the West End and Kerrie Anne Greenland who played Eponine.

Each night, following that evening’s final performance, Launceston’s Earl Arts Centre will be transformed into THE DIVA DEN hosted by a different local or national diva each night.

Crowd favourites GHOSTLIGHT, a behind the scenes peak into the Princess Theatre (perhaps accompanied by a ghost), BUSKER’S ALLEY showcasing the stars of tomorrow with the songs of yesteryear and BACKWARDS AND FORWARDS giving you rare access to many of Launceston’s oldest buildings.

Combine music and local produce with FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD at the Harvest Markets and soak up the best of musical theatre at the FOYER DOOR CONCERT as emerging voices and stars of tomorrow fill the foyer of the Princess Theatre.
