Airfares, Airline Choice and Competition Take Centre Stage at Beyond Borders 2026

ACCC to Brief Australia’s Travel Industry

Australia’s travel industry will get a closer look at the forces shaping airfares, airline choice and aviation competition when the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission takes the stage at Beyond Borders 2026 in Melbourne.

The Beyond Borders Travel Summit will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on Friday 9 October 2026, bringing together travel industry leaders ahead of the National Travel Industry Awards on 10 October.

ACCC Executive Director, Airports and Aviation David Cranston and Director, Competition Exemptions Anthony Hilton will provide an industry briefing on developments across Australia’s domestic and international aviation markets, followed by a fireside conversation with Australian Travel Industry Association Chief Executive Officer Dean Long.

The ACCC monitors airline and airport pricing, costs and profits, making competition and aviation market developments particularly important to travel businesses planning for 2027.

What Travel Businesses Need to Know for 2027

Beyond Borders 2026 has been designed around the issues expected to influence Australian travel businesses over the coming year.

The summit program will examine the industry outlook for 2027, government priorities in Canberra, accommodation capacity and value, payment options, customer complaints, touring and the changing expectations of travellers.

ATIA Chair Christian Hunter and Dean Long will open the event with an assessment of what 2026 has taught the industry, recent advocacy achievements and the development of the association’s A30 agenda.

An industry leaders panel will then bring together senior figures from Australia's largest travel businesses to discuss distribution, technology, talent, product and changing traveller expectations.

A masterclass featuring ATIA Director of Compliance and Membership Nina Hedges and FCM Travel Solutions Manager of Risk Kirsten Window will explore how businesses can turn customer complaints into opportunities to improve processes and prevent recurring problems.

Payment practices will also come under the spotlight. Birds Eye View Consulting Managing Director Nicole O’Sullivan will examine how travel businesses can introduce non-credit-card payment options confidently while keeping the sales conversation focused on value.

Accommodation intelligence, touring and the role of technology will round out a program aimed at helping businesses make informed decisions in a rapidly changing travel environment.
