The Australian Musical Theatre Festival is set to illuminate Launceston once again from 20 to 24 May 2026, bringing a vibrant fusion of talent, storytelling and performance to Tasmania. Artistic Director Tyran Parke has unveiled an outstanding program that showcases the very best of Australian and international musical theatre, with performances taking place throughout the newly refurbished Albert Hall and surrounding city venues.
In 2026, the Festival continues its evolution, expanding its footprint within the spectacularly renovated Albert Hall, now revitalised following a $20 million transformation. The venue’s enhanced spaces will host a dynamic series of concerts, cabaret, workshops and special events designed to celebrate creativity and inspire performers and audiences alike.
A Festival Backed by Icons of the Stage
One of the most exciting announcements for 2026 is the appointment of legendary performer Nancye Hayes AM as Festival Patron. A beloved figure in Australian theatre, Hayes expressed her joy and pride in supporting an event that champions excellence while nurturing emerging talent. Her long-standing commitment to fostering the next generation of performers adds a meaningful layer to the Festival’s growing legacy.Also returning is the acclaimed Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, following its triumphant Festival debut in 2025. Their collaboration with visiting artists promises to be another highlight, bringing symphonic power to some of the most moving and memorable musical theatre moments of the year.
