From festive family celebrations and live music to immersive dining and outdoor adventure, Australia’s award-winning alpine destination is proving that the mountains shine just as brightly in summer.

Set against a backdrop of iconic hikes, the Southern Hemisphere’s only Alpine Coaster, and Australia’s premier Mountain Bike Park, Thredbo’s summer events add a vibrant cultural layer to its natural appeal, attracting families, food lovers, music fans and adventure seekers alike.

Festive Fun for the Whole Family

The season kicks off with Thredbo’s much-loved Christmas Carnival, running from 20 December through to Christmas Day. The village transforms into a festive alpine playground filled with family-friendly celebrations. Highlights include the Thredbo Village Christmas Party with a special visit from Santa, creative arts and crafts, carols, and hands-on gingerbread decorating.

The carnival offers families a rare chance to celebrate Christmas surrounded by cool mountain air, scenic peaks and a welcoming village atmosphere that blends festive tradition with alpine charm.

Summer in Thredbo is also shaping up to be a standout season for food lovers. Christmas Day dining options allow guests to relax and indulge, choosing between a festive feast with drinks at Cascades Restaurant or a relaxed family buffet in the Kosciuszko Room.

New Year’s Eve brings one of the most exclusive dining experiences in the Snowy Mountains, with Cascades hosting a decadent five-course dinner paired with a three-hour beverage package. Guests then continue celebrations at the Alpine Bar, welcoming the new year from one of the highest points in Australia.

Food and music come together during the iconic Thredbo Blues Festival in January, with premium dining experiences such as the Eagles Blues Lunch and Cascades Blues Dinners. These events combine live blues performances with refined alpine cuisine in Thredbo’s most celebrated venues.

The Snowies Beer, Food & Wine Festival Dinner on 23 January promises another culinary highlight. Led by head chef Sebastian Doyle, the evening features five carefully curated courses paired with beer, wine and cocktails, showcasing regional flavours in a truly alpine setting.

Live Music Under the Mountain Sky

Music lovers are well catered for with Thredbo’s Summer Music Series presented by Balter, a free outdoor concert series staged at the Alpine Bar. Set against dramatic mountain scenery, the series delivers relaxed afternoons and sunset sessions filled with live music.

The lineup includes Jack Biilmann on 27 December, Spindrift Saga on New Year’s Eve, The Department of Noise on 3 January and Thrillhouse on 10 January. Adding to the excitement, Hockey Dad will headline the Alpine Bar on 14 February as part of the Cannonball MTB Festival closing celebrations.
