On the opening day of the Dubai Airshow 2025, Emirates confirmed its order for 65 Boeing 777-9 aircraft, each powered by GE9X engines. The agreement elevated Emirates’ total Boeing widebody orderbook to 315 aircraft, including 270 Boeing 777Xs, 10 Boeing 777 freighters and 35 Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

The announcement marked one of the most significant commercial aircraft orders revealed at the airshow, capturing global attention and reinforcing Emirates’ confidence in the Boeing 777X programme as the backbone of its future long-haul operations.

Backing the Future of the Boeing 777 Family

As part of the agreement, Emirates secured options to convert its latest 777-9 order into either the Boeing 777-8 or the proposed 777-10. This flexibility provided strong support for Boeing’s feasibility study into the larger-capacity 777-10, a model designed to meet rising global air travel demand and increasing airport constraints.

The options highlighted Emirates’ long-standing call for more efficient, higher-capacity aircraft capable of supporting network growth while maintaining operational excellence.

With this latest commitment, Emirates remained the world’s largest customer and operator of the Boeing 777 family, with a total orderbook of 280 aircraft including freighters. The airline also solidified its position as the largest customer for GE9X engines, bringing its total engine order to 540 units following the additional 130 engines signed at the airshow.

The deal represented a substantial long-term investment in US aerospace manufacturing, supporting hundreds of thousands of skilled jobs across multiple states over the lifespan of the programmes.

The expanded order aligned closely with Dubai’s long-term aviation and economic growth plans. Emirates confirmed that each aircraft on order had been carefully integrated into its expansion strategy, with deliveries scheduled well into the next decade and extending through to 2038.

Over more than 40 years, Emirates had operated every model in the Boeing 777 family, building the world’s largest 777 fleet. At the time of the announcement, the airline’s Boeing 777-300ERs, 777-200LRs and freighters connected Dubai to more than 140 cities across six continents, supporting international trade, tourism and commerce.

Industry leaders from Boeing and GE Aerospace praised the enduring partnership, noting that the agreement reflected Emirates’ confidence in next-generation aircraft technology and the future of long-haul air travel.
