A Century-Old Treasure of Tottori
Planted in 1916, the Hinokami Ginkgo has stood tall for over a century, its beauty cherished by generations of locals and visitors alike. Even after the school’s closure in 2009, the community of Nichinan-cho lovingly preserved the tree, ensuring its continued splendor each autumn.Today, this remarkable ginkgo serves as a living symbol of resilience and renewal — a reminder of both the passage of time and the enduring connection between nature and community.
A Golden Autumn Experience
The Hinokami Ginkgo reaches its peak from early to mid-November, when its radiant yellow leaves blanket the ground in a dazzling display that resembles a golden carpet stretching across the former schoolyard. During this short but spectacular window, visitors can stroll beneath its glowing branches, take in the crisp mountain air, and capture photos of one of Japan’s most enchanting autumn landscapes. To make the visit more convenient, a shuttle bus operates from the nearby roadside station, allowing easy access for travelers wishing to see the ginkgo at its finest.
