The country music capital of Australia just got closer: Bonza announces new route Sunshine Coast to Tamworth

Just a month after announcing its initial routes and Sunshine Coast base, Bonza have celebrated the addition of a twice-weekly service from the Coast to Tamworth - Australia’s country music capital.

The announcement brings Bonza’s launch network to 17 destinations and 27 routes - 81% of which are not served by any airline and 96% are not currently served by a low-cost carrier. Travellers can expect to pay an average of $50 to $100 for a one to two hour flight.

“When we announced our initial routes and Sunshine Coast base last month, it was just the beginning. Here we are just weeks later adding another large regional destination to our offering that will give people on the Coast more choice when it comes to travel,” says Tim Jordan, CEO of Bonza - Australia’s only independent low-cost carrier.

He went on to say that locals will now be able to visit Australia’s capital of country music as well as explore the wide open spaces and outdoor activities of the NSW New England region. Likewise, residents of Tamworth and the New England region will now have the opportunity to visit the Sunshine Coast with ultra-low fares.

Sunshine Coast Airport CEO Andrew Brodie welcomed the news: “Showing just how committed Bonza are to the Sunshine Coast, this addition to their route network is another vote of confidence for our region, and for domestic travel to connect regional Australia”.

“This announcement is evidence of our airport providing more services to more destinations at more consistent times, and connecting Sunshine Coast residents to more of Australia”.

“This will further spearhead our region’s recovery, with 17 destinations soon to be connected to the Sunshine Coast when Bonza takes flight. This is an increase from the three destinations we serviced pre-COVID in 2019, taking us from 10th to the 2nd most domestically connected airport in Queensland,” added Brodie.

Bonza is encouraging everyone to download the Fly Bonza app to be the first in the know for flights going on sale, fare sales, destination news and travel tips.

Once all functions are added to the app in the coming weeks and months, it will be where Aussies can plan, book and manage their bookings. It’ll also be where travellers can check in and access their boarding passes - eliminating the need for paper boarding passes at the airport. Once onboard, the retail offering, travel information and much more will be available exclusively through the app.
