Ireland launches bid for Eurovision glory

Rachel Goode
Broadcaster RTÉ has launched its bid for Eurovision glory, announcing the first two artists competing to represent the Emerald Isle: Rachel Goode and Brendan Murray.

They will join a further 4 entries (revealed over the coming days) in a Eurovision special version of the Late Late Show, where a winner will be chosen by a combination of professional national jury, international jury and a public vote.

The chance to represent Ireland at the Contest in Turin has been extremely popular this year, with hundreds of entries being received by RTÉ following a callout for submissions last September.

Composers: Joakim Övrenius / Thomas Karlsson / Johan Mauritzson / Anna Engh

'When I am singing, I am in my own world, nothing else seems to matter in that moment and it’s the best feeling ever.’

Rachel is a classically trained soprano from Ballinasloe, County Galway.

Passionate about her craft, Goode is no stranger to the stage and has performed in many of Ireland’s major venues including the National Concert Hall and Bord Gais Energy Theatre.

The vocalist is inspired by singers such as Patsy Cline and Mary Black and her love of music has no bounds; from country and pop to singing with a full orchestra, her voice can glide seamlessly through various genres

I’m Loving Me is written and produced by some of the team behind Poland’s entry The Ride that competed in the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam.

Composers: Brendan Murray / Darrell Coyle

A member of Irish boyband HomeTown from 2014 – 2016, you might also remember Brendan from the Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv, where he performed Dying To Try.

After the Contest, the talent from Tuam took part in The X Factor UK, finishing in 5th place, where Simon Cowell described him as being in ‘a completely different league.’

‘The meaning behind Real Love is not realising what was right in front of you the whole time. You’ve ignored and put the thought of it to one side but then you come to that realization that you should have said what you felt a long time ago.

You’ve convinced and made excuses for yourself when you really should have told that person how you really felt.’

The next 4 artists competing to win the ticket to Turin will be revealed over the coming days, along with the date of the competition.

Let us know what you think of the hopefuls over on the official Eurovision Song Contest Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook channels.

The Eurovision Song Contest
