Mt. Tsukuba, the number one famous mountain in Ibaraki Prefecture, is also a treasure trove of plant research where more than 1,000 species of plants grow. Mountain trekking and hiking are interesting ways to get close to nature throughout the year. In autumn, there are cable cars and ropeways for hikers and mountain climbers, so you can reach to the summit easily. You can enjoy the autumn leaves scenery fully from the charm of each plant to the whole entire mountain. Please drop by and visit Tsukubasan Shrine and hot springs located on the hillside. It will be an even more memorable trip.
Mt. Tsukuba is a mountain with an altitude of 877m located at the northern end of Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and in the eastern part of the Kanto region of Japan. On the west side is Mt. Nantai (elevation 871m) and on the east side in the precincts of Tsukubasan Shrine is Mt. Nyotai (elevation 877m) . The elegant name for that section is Shiho. It is also known as Tsukuba-ne, and it is one of the symbols of Ibaraki Prefecture.

Mountain Tsukuba Shrine
First, let’s pray for the trip’s safety at Tsukubasan Shrine.
Tsukubasan Shrine is an old shrine that looks up to the sacred mountain “Mt. Tsukuba”. The Tsukubasan Shrine has a history of worship for more than 3,000 years plus. Many people come to worship throughout the year due to the high magnificent and precious deity. The people also come to pray for weddings, marriages, traffic safety, warding off evil, etc.. everyday at the shrine.

Cable car
Please be assured even if you are not good at hiking or trekking,
you can still easily reach the summit with a cable car.

One- way trip ticket for cable car and ropeway
With a set of one-way ticket for the cable car and ropeway, you can use the cable car and ropeway once each way.
For customers arriving by bus, it is highly recommended! You can take 1 ride with the cable car and ropeway and then return to the Tsukuba Center from another bus stop. The tickets are sold at Cable Car Miyawaki Station and Ropeway Tsutsujigaoka Station.

Shirohebi Benten (White Snakes Benten)
It can be seen immediately from the sake mukaiba. It is said that the white snake lives in there and those who see it will make a fortune.
Miyuki Tea House
A local gourmet restaurant is where you can eat Tsukuba udon. The restaurant uses local special products within the area around Mt. Tsukuba.
Tsukuba Udon is a local noodle dish that uses local ingredients such as wheat and lotus powder. The Tsukuba udon is made from Tsukuba Akane chicken (“TSU”kune), and locally produced (“KU”royasai) vegetables such as shiitake and burdock, and also rose pork (“BA”ranikku) meat. The names of the ingredients put together the word TSUKUBA. Tsukuba udon is a famous dish of the region.

The Altitude is 871m! It takes about 15 minutes from Miyukigahara to reach the summit of Mt. Nantai! The main shrine of Mt. Tsukuba was revered as the guardian mountain of the Tokugawa Shogunate, and so it faces the direction of Edo Castle.

It is called Gamaishi because Hyosuke Nagai came up with the idea of “Gamaishi’s oil seller”. The surface of the whitish stone is smooth, similar to the abdomen of a frog.
