The Canary Islands

The Canary Islands is a Spanish archipelago off the coast of northwestern Africa and comprising the islands of Tenerife; Lanzarote; Gran Canaria; Fuerteventura; La Palma; La Gomera; El Hierro and La Graciosa.

The Canary Islands Government has reached an agreement with AXA Spain on a travel assistance policy for all tourists to the Islands in response to incidents related to COVID-19. It means tourists to the Canary Islands will have travel assistance coverage. Following a positive test for COVID-19, it guarantees cover for all related medical expenses, health repatriation.

The protection of tourists through this insurance policy has taken effect and will be valid for 12 months.

It will cover all visitors who did not know they had the virus and do not have personal insurance to cover the costs.

It also covers extension of stays due to quarantine related regulations, but will not cover cases of COVID-19 known prior to travel, as set out in the insurance policy conditions. Canary Islands Tourism believes the insurance will make the Canaries even more attractive as a tourist destination, which already stands out for its health security.
