Vietnam tourism concluded 2019 with the arrival of 18 million international tourists, recording a 16.2% increase over the last period, and 85 million domestic visitors, an increase of 6% over the last period. The total receipts from tourism industry in Vietnam reached a record height of over USD 31.2 billion.
In 2019 Vietnam won many World Travel Awards. Vietnam was awarded the top 4 Awards in Asia 2019 including-

- Asia's Leading Cultural Destination 2019
- Vietnam Asia's Leading Destination 2019
- Hoi An Vietnam Asia's Leading Cultural City 2019
In particular, Vietnam was honoured to be awarded the
- World's Leading Heritage Destination 2019 and
- World's Best Golf Destination 2019.
Tourism has been considered a key economic industry of Vietnam. Over the past years, the Government of Vietnam has issued a spate of important policies covering visa facilitation and improvement of the tourism environment to further develop tourism in the new international context, especially when the ASEAN Economic Community has been formally established.
As of February 2020, regular passport holders from 24 countries do not need a tourist visa for Vietnam including Chile, Cambodia, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Belarus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. As of February 2019, Vietnam e-visa is available to nationals of 80 countries.
Over the past number of years, Vietnam has emerged as a world-class destination that delivers an unrivalled visitor experience, from natural wonders and cultural offerings to adventure tours and beautiful beaches with some of the leading resorts in the world. This storybook of unique experiences is intertwined with history, extraordinary cuisine to vibrant young cities and mixed with century-old landmarks. Vietnam and its people have much to offer to the Asian market from product diversity, authenticity, and originality mixed with different emotions. Vietnam continues to offer the visitor a tradition of service built on an outstanding cultural heritage coupled with an unmatched friendliness and sophistication.
Many destinations have become popular for international tourists. These include the capital city of Hanoi, Sa Pa, Hue, Da Nang. Hoi An, Nha Trang, Bin Thuan, Phu Quoc, Vung Tau, Ha Long, Ninh Binh and Ho Chi Minh City. Also, a variety of new destinations and services have emerged and become increasingly popular, including the worldwide famous Son Doong cave exploration tour, visiting Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark, experiencing the Natural World Heritage Ha Long Bay by seaplane, exploring the tranquil Mekong Delta and experiencing the peaceful tropical paradise of Phu Quoc.
As for the aviation sector, 2019 turned up to be the year of new airline announcements from Vin Pearl Air, Kite Air, Vietravel Airlines, increasing the number of airlines so far licensed by the country to 9. The others are Vietnam Airlines, Jetstar Pacific Airlines, Vietjet Air, Vasco Airlines, Bamboo Airways. The country has 22 airports (9 international and 13 domestic) and the number of aircraft is expected to grow to over 222 units by 2020.
Besides a number of various events in these Visit Vietnam Year 2020 taking place throughout the year, the other major events include Vietnam International Travel Mart (VITM) from 1st to 4th of April 2020, Hue Festival 2020 from 1st to 6th of April 2020, Hanoi Formula 1 Grand Prix, Danang Fireworks Festival 2020. A wide range of activities is scheduled to be held in the country next year as Vietnam taking over the Chairmanship of ASEAN 2020. Vietnam is especially looking forward to hosting the ASEAN Summit 36 in April in Da Nang and ASEAN Summit 37 in November in Hanoi.
As part of its marketing plan for 2020 has launched “#Vietnam Now” campaign. Also in 2020, the tourism industry will focus on promoting the nation's historical culture, heritage and nature assets, alongside Visit Vietnam Year Hoa Lu, Ninh Binh.

About Hanoi Formula 1 Grand Prix
This will be held from 3rd to 5th of April 2020. This is the third proper street race on the F1 calendar this year, alongside Monaco and Singapore. The Hanoi track will be 5.57 km long and feature 22 corners.
In 2020 Vietnam aims at welcoming 20.5 million international tourists. The major source markets are Northeast Asia (China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan), Southeast Asia (Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia) and Europe (Russia, UK, France, Germany, Holland, Spain, Italy, etc). Marketing activities will be also expanded to Australia, North America and India for further market expansion.
