Beautiful Blossoms in Japan

Enjoy an early Hanami in Japan! Although cherry blossoms are generally associated with hanami, or flower-viewing parties, the ume (plum) blossom is also a well-known sign of the coming of spring for many Japanese. 

There are plenty of places to enjoy viewing plum blossoms. Perhaps the most famous and early-blooming trees can be found in Atami Plum Garden and Kairakuen in Mito. 

Both locations are about an hour and half from Tokyo Station and make for a great day trip to experience an important Japanese spring tradition.
