The Tamworth Country Music Festival

Head to the capital of country for the Tamworth Country Music Festival. It’s Australia’s largest music festival and is held in January each year. It is the largest country music event in the southern hemisphere, with a crowd of more than 50,000 music lovers rocking up during the 10 days of the festival to see over 700 artists perform at more than 120 venues.

Australia's country music capital plays host to the iconic annual Tamworth Country Music Festival each January, drawing massive crowds to see Australia’s best country, blues, folk and rock music. With more than 2,800 events to see, it’s a fantastic week to be in the country music capital.

Don’t miss the buskers on Peel Street. More than 600 competitors are expected to register to play a set on the ‘Boulevard of dreams’ with the busking finalists taking part in the Best of the Buskers Concert on the festival's final night, when the winner will be announced.

You can get another taste of country music during the Hats Off to Country festival in July, with venues and pubs across Tamworth and surrounds hosting gigs and concerts. Both up-and-coming and veteran artists play this five-day celebration of all things country.

A lot of the pub gigs are free, so don’t miss a chance to see some top Aussie acts; the Longyard Hotel, The DAG, the Oasis and the Tudor have a string of great shows on offer.

Year-round, you can visit the Tamworth Visitor Information Centre and Big Golden Guitar Tourist Centre. The guitar is a symbol of the Tamworth Country Music Festival and Tamworth’s status as the country music capital of Australia.

Here you’ll see more than 20 guitars autographed by Australian and international country music icons, the 'The Gallery of Stars' Wax Museum, and 'The Collectors’ Museum'.

Music lovers should head to the Australian Country Music Hall of Fame which includes the Walk a Country Mile exhibit, which tells the story of Australian country music through a series of interactive touch screens and country music memorabilia.

The Hall of Fame boasts an unmatched collection of memorabilia from Australian Country music artists from Smoky Dawson to Adam Harvey, Amber Lawrence and more. The displays are changed regularly.

Visit Tamworth’s own Hollywood Walk of Fame at the Hands of Fame Park, where you can place your hands in the imprints of some of Australia’s country music legends. The Country Music Trail offers a great opportunity to discover the history of the Australian country music scene, from its early days through to today.
