It is a humorous murder mystery, set in a Manor House living room, with a cast of ten. Hapless amateur sleuth, Miss Glossop visits an old friend and solves a murder to the satisfaction of everyone - especially the guilty.
It was presented in Muswellbrook by a group of locals, most who have not been on any stage before, to raise funds for two local charities. The play was presented in two halves, with the audience sitting around tables. Nine of the ten cast members were introduced during the first half.
During interval dinner was served, consisting of freshly cooked pizza & garlic bread. During this break one of the cast members was murdered (off stage). The audience was asked to write down on paper 1) who was murdered 2) who did it 3) with what weapon, 4) and what the motive was.
The second half of the play was presented with only 8 of the original cast members, plus the addition of the Policeman on stage, as one had been murdered. By the end of this second half all the questions had been answered. It was interesting to note that none of the 80 or so people present in the audience got more than two of the questions right.
The 10 people in the cast are -
1) Vera Partington (played by Sam McClean), an overbearing wheelchair-bound Lady of the Manor
2) Ronald Partington (Tim Seymour), husband of Vera, retired Finance Director, engaged in a long running battle on the manor with moles.
3) Daphne Partington (Emma Horden), niece of Vera and Ron, living at the Manor with her twin sister Elizabeth.
4) Elizabeth Partington, (Jess Dugan), niece of Vera and Ron, and twin sister Daphne. Enjoys reading, especially 'Real Crime' genre.
5) Jane Glossop (Gwen Thring) , school friend of Vera, always interested in everyones gossip. Fancies herself as a bit of an investigator.
6) Andrew "Andy" Brown (Jason Thring) Housekeeper to the Partingtons. A wonderful chef and always brings the members of the household their tea.
7) Justin Partington-Cresswell (Darryl Spicer), nephew of Ron and Vera. Enthusiastic about his new found hobby, videography. Has brought his latest girlfriend, Harriet, to meet the relatives.
8) Harriet Kiddle (Melissa Goodworth), Justin's new girlfriend. A bit of a klutz, usually falling over and breaking things. First time meeting Justin's relatives.
9) Nurse ChristineMeredith, (Cheryl Wiseman), Vera's personal nurse. Takes her job very seriously, also looking after other members of the family.
10) Detective Inspector Hewitt (Richard French), a member of Her Majesty's Constabulary, trying to get to the bottom of the Murder at the Manor.
Everyone present thoroughly enjoyed Miss Glossop Comes to Tea. All the actors did a wonderful job in bringing their characters to life on stage. The play will be presented only for a second time this Saturday night. I would to suggest to come along, but the night is already booked out.
