The Gia Lai provincial Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism kicked off the second Sport-Culture competition for ethnic minority groups on May 24th.
The four-day event drew the participation of over 1,000 folk artists and athletes from 16 districts, towns and cities across the province. Along with cultural contests, including traditional singing, traditional musical instrument performances, and gongs performances, the athletes competed in seven folk games: football, volleyball, running, archery, tug-of-war game, running on stilts, and stick pushing.
The event promoted solidarity and exchanges of culture and experience among ethnic minority groups. It also introduced their special arts and culture to the Vietnamese people nationwide and to international friends.
The event also aimed to strengthen solidarity among ethnic minorities, preserve traditional cultural features, and develop the region. It also created a healthy playground for ethnic minority groups, in response to the “People taking part in physical exercise, following Uncle Ho’s great example” initiative.
