From 28 May to 1 June 2016, the 6th Southern Cuisine Festival will take place in Dam Sen Cultural Park (No.3 Hoa Binh Street, District 11, Ho Chi Minh City). The festival is organized by Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Tourism in coordination with relevant units to honor and introduce unique culinary features of Viet Nam and also the South to international and domestic visitors.
According to, Mr. Truong Minh Hau, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City’s Tourism Promotion Centre, this year’s festival will have 30 units with about 50 booths. The booths will be displayed according to 4 culinary styles, including Central cuisine, Central Highlands cuisine, Southern cuisine, and Sai Gon cuisine. To highlight this year’s festival, the organization board arranges more new areas, such as: the area of ethnic art performance and folk game, the area to guide pupils to process dishes as cha gio (spring roll), banh trang (rice paper)…, especially the area displaying 100 types of Southern traditional sweet soups and cakes such as ba ba sweet soup, banana sweet soup, it tran cake, nam cake... In this area, visitors will have the opportunity to see artisans processing the traditional cakes, sweet soups and learn how to cook these dishes and then eating them. These experiences help visitors understand more how to process and feel exquisitely traditional dishes.
In the framework of the festival, many other activities will be also held, such as performance of Don ca tai tu, reappearance of Southern rural market…
The festival is expected to attract about 100,000 visitor arrivals.
