The 11th FIP World Polo Championship will be held from 17-30 October next year at the Sydney Polo Club in the stunning Hawkesbury region, Member for Hawkesbury Dominic Perrottet has announced today.
“The World Polo Championship is the sport’s most prestigious polo event, and has been secured exclusively for the Hawkesbury region by the NSW Government, through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW,” Mr Perrottet said.
“The event will see polo fans from around Australia and the world heading to Richmond, and is expected to deliver more than 5,000 domestic and international visitors to the region. This is great news for local hotels and businesses, and will see the Hawkesbury showcased to an international audience.
“With the XI FIP World Polo Championship now confirmed for 17-30 October next year, it will allow visitors to make plans to get to this spectacular area, book accommodation in the region and experience everything it has to offer.”
NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events and Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres said the tournament will see some of the best players in the world from their respective countries competing at the Sydney Polo Club.
“The XI FIP World Polo Championship will give this historic sport a great boost locally, and see the Hawkesbury’s incredible polo fields and scenery broadcast around the world,” Mr Ayres said.
Owner of Sydney Polo Club, Mr Peter Higgins said “It is a wonderful honour and privilege for Sydney Polo Club to organise and host this event for the Hawkesbury region. We hope that it will deliver enormous benefits to the local community, and look forward to welcoming everyone to an exciting world-class polo and sporting occasion.”
