Giant kites soar up into Hung Yen province’s sky

The sky above Ecopark, a new green urban residential area in the northern province of Hung Yen, was peppered with giant kites representing buoyancy with hope and joy of life during the opening ceremony of an international kite festival on April 30.

As the biggest-ever kite festival in the north, the four-day event brought together 100 kite artisans across the country as well as teams from foreign countries, including Canada, Germany, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.

One of the top kite flyers in the world, Lam Gia Hoac, a Vietnamese national currently living in Canada, treated visitors to his fine-crafted kites and skilful demonstration.

Winner of the Vung Tau International Kite Festival 2013, Nguyen Truong Huy is among the festival’s participants.

Spectators have been wowed by 100 metre-long kites of all colours and shapes flying in the sky while finding it interesting to create their own kites under the guidance of kite artisans.

Besides kaleidoscopic patchwork of kites, the visitors will have chance to join in a slew of entertaining activities and enjoy special cuisine at Ecopark urban area.
