More than 5,000 people are expected to fill the foreshores of Nelson Bay on New Year’s Eve as Port Stephens celebrates the arrival of 2015 with live entertainment, kids’ activities and fireworks.
This year’s free event will have a special focus on families, with the full fireworks display taking place at 9pm, ensuring both young and old get to watch the fireworks soar towards the middle of the bay, filling the night sky and lighting up Port Stephens’ waterways.
The festivities will kick off at midday with local musician Mick Jones performing, followed by Newcastle duo Kim and Mik. For the kids, balloon sculptures, unicycle riding, juggling, comedy performances and free face painting will be offered by Willy Doodrop and Bubbles the Clown from 4.30pm, with resident amusements Aerojump, Sandart and Jumping Castle also on offer.
For those interested in enjoying New Years’ Eve in style, the marina has a large selection of eateries and restaurants which offer fine dining and impressive views. Retail outlets will also be open, offering people their last opportunity to shop for the year.
Parking will be available at the d’Albora Marinas carpark, which will be free of charge after 4.30pm, as well as at the foreshore council car park and surrounding streets. For those families wishing to set up for the night, the Nelson Bay foreshore’s public grassed area is an ideal location. Security guards will be on site monitoring the crowds and ensuring that the alcohol-free zone is enforced.
