Mercure Gold Coast Resort Completes Multimillion Dollar Update

One of Australia's original prestige golf-resort addresses, the Mercure Gold Coast Resort, is set for a major renaissance following the completion of a dramatic multimillion dollar hotel upgrade. The extensive redesign and upgrade is the first major renovation at the property since it opened its doors almost 17 years ago amidst the Gold Coast's “Green Belt” and five affiliated championship golf courses – Lakelands, Palm Meadows, Robina Woods, Colonial and The Glades. The dramatic transformation of the Mercure Gold Coast Resort was completed in consultation with one of the country's leading hotel refurbishment interior design teams In Design International, led by designer Penny del Castillo. The redesign extends to major central facilities and guest rooms, and soft furnishings and AV in the conference space. The concept theme development was strongly influenced by the geographical location and surrounding golf course, both of which played a major part in determining the approach to design and finishes to achieve casual yet chic interiors. Renovations in rooms and suites include all furnishings and fittings, and for a contemporary and relaxed resort vibe, boast a modern colour palette with hints of en trend orange in trimmed scatter cushions and designer, deck-chair style fabrics adorning bedheads. The use of natural timber with local Queensland-style horizontal groove and slim line furnishings adds a laid-back yet sophisticated appeal for guests.

Street Art Hits Surfers Paradise

The street art urban vibe has hit Surfers Paradise. 50 cans of spray paint and 15 hours later, renowned street artist John Kaye has just completed two large panels of street art along the Surfers Paradise Boulevard side of Chevron Renaissance Shopping Centre which form part of the newly created Melbourne styled laneway precinct, 'Chevron Lane'. And the street art doesn't stop there; during the first few days of December, John will be back at Chevron Renaissance with another 100 cans of paint to complete 8 more panels of street art within Chevron Lane. The creation of Chevron Lane is just one component of the Centre's multi-million dollar transformation that is due to be complete within the next couple of weeks. The restaurant precinct has also received a complete makeover with a new shade sail making the area completely weather protectant, the alteration of the water fountain that will now be leased as a food and beverage kiosk, new garden beds to be installed and large rustic beams being mounted around the façades of the restaurants with corten shop signs on top.

Tangalooma Dolphin's New Joy After Sadness

Tangalooma wild dolphin Silhouette has given birth to a healthy calf just one year after tragically losing her first baby for reason unknown. The 10-year old new mum last Friday night appeared in rough water with her new offspring in tow. Tangalooma ranger Susan Hassard said she was over the moon about the birth and already noticing how protective Silhouette was over her little one. “Silhouette is very emotionally connected and displaying strong protective instincts, keeping her baby well back from the other dolphins and out of harm's way,” Mrs Hassard said. “We are also delighted because the calf is the first fourth-generation dolphin to be introduced into the Tangalooma wild dolphin family.” Silhouette was born is 2004 to Shadow, who was the offspring of Beauty – the original Tangalooma dolphin that started the resort's successful wild dolphin provisional feeding program in 1992. “This calf comes from wonderful ancestry and is showing all the signs of being a little fighter,” Mrs Hassard said. “The north-westerlies were blowing hard at the end of last week and the water was very choppy. “The baby needed all its strength to swim through those rough seas and keep up with its mother – it certainly would have been a hard start to life.” As its newest member, the baby now joins the family of 10 other wild dolphins that comes to shore each night to be fed by guests of Tangalooma Island Resort.
