Which Airport Should I Use to Get to Anaheim and Orange County?

The closest airport to Anaheim is John Wayne (also known as Orange County or Santa Ana), which is a short 20-minute drive from the Anaheim Resort. With more than 20 direct destinations and hundreds of daily flights, this airport is the most convenient and popular choice for Orange County travelers.

The second closest airport to Orange County is Long Beach (LGB), located approximately 18 miles from Anaheim. Long Beach is a small and extremely convenient airport with a lot of character. Recently remodeled and expanded, LGB now houses only local restaurants and shops, so if you didn’t get the chance to soak in the local culture during your trip – you’ll still have the chance as you wait for your flight.

Los Angeles International (LAX) and Ontario International (ONT) are also great choices and are each about 30 miles from Anaheim. With more than 1,000 daily flights, LAX definitely has the upper hand when it comes to flight selection, availability, and scheduling. The Ontario Airport gives travelers the feeling of a small town airport with the quick security lines and the easy navigation of its terminals. 

 

How Do I Get to Anaheim Once I’ve Landed at the Airport?

Once you’ve landed and you need transportation to Anaheim, there are multiple options for you and some of them you might not have known about.

Some of the options include:

• Shuttle services (e.g. Disneyland Resort Express, SuperShuttle, Mickey’s Space Ship Shuttle, Karmel)
• Taxis (e.g. California Yellow Cab, Yellow Cab of Greater Orange County)
• Private cars (e.g. ABC Car Group, All Starz Limousine, ALS Limo and Car Service, Classique Limousine, CLI – Worldwide Transportation)

Disneyland Express is a shared shuttle and costs $20 per adult (from John Wayne Airport) and $30 if you are traveling from LAX. It does stop at the Disneyland Resort hotels first, but will then take you on to your destination.

SuperShuttle is another option and has special rates if your travel takes you to the Anaheim Resort area. It is only $17 when coming from LAX and $11 when coming from John Wayne. Just make sure to make reservations using the Disneyland Super Shuttle Web Portal. You can find a discount offer for SuperShuttle here.

Ride share companies such as Uber are currently not available from SNA, but they are working with John Wayne airport and county officials to iron out some details and should be available to passengers in the future. We will be sure to update you when we know more.

How Do I Get Around Once I'm in Anaheim and O.C.?

Anaheim Resort Transportation

While in Anaheim, there are many ways to get around the city that makes our destination very accessible. The most widely used, and a favorite of visitors, is ART (Anaheim Resort Transportation). This bus system stops at the Anaheim Convention Center, local hotels, attractions, and shopping destinations every 15, 20, or 30 minutes. Most of the Anaheim Resort hotels will have a kiosk to purchase tickets or the front desk agent may sell them as well. Some of the routes can be a bit tricky to figure out, but there are plenty of maps and information available at each hotel and kiosk. ART recently added a new route that stops at the Anaheim Packing House. At $5/day for an adult and $3/day for children (includes unlimited rides to any destination), ART is very reasonable and affordable.

Amtrak/Metrolink

Conference attendees and visitors can use Amtrak for sight-seeing and other attractions in Southern California. One of my favorite lines is the famous Amtrak Pacific Surfliner that travels from San Diego to San Luis Obispo with stops near Disneyland and the Anaheim Convention Center. It continues along the coast with stops in Orange County, Los Angeles, and Santa Barbara. Coming soon, Amtrak along with Metrolink and the OCTA bus services, will come together at the nearby ARTIC transit center. This one of a kind structure will provide a convenient option for you to switch from one mode of transportation to another and create ease in navigating Orange County.
