New brochure to showcase Indigenous tourism businesses

A new brochure showcasing the Territory’s Indigenous-owned tourism businesses has been released to help tourists coming to the NT who are seeking indigenous experiences.

Ten Indigenous tour operators have joined forces to develop the Northern Territory Aboriginal Tours and Experiences brochure, which is being supported and funded by the Northern Territory Government.

“This is a great initiative – not only will it help tourists find high quality Indigenous experiences it is also part of a wider program of where Indigenous tourism operators are offered business mentoring and marketing support to help grow their business,” said Tourism Minister Matt Conlan.

“Tourism is a highly competitive sector and it comes as no surprise that many visitors to the Territory are after a high-quality Indigenous experience.

“The NT is second to none for offering nature-based and cultural holidays from the Red Centre to the Tropical Top End and these businesses are important players in delivering those experiences.

“Supporting Indigenous tourism operators is part of the Giles Government’s plan to drive economic growth in our remote communities and create more jobs and opportunities for people in the bush. Dispersing more visitors to our regions will also help to develop Northern Australia and achieve our Tourism Vision 2020 target of a $2.2 billion visitor economy by 2020.”

The tour companies featured in the brochure are:
  • Darwin & Surrounds - Batji Tours, Northern Territory Indigenous Tours, Pudakul Aboriginal Cultural Tours
  • Kakadu - Kakadu Cultural Tours
  • Arnhem Land, Banubanu Wilderness Retreat, Lirrwi Tourism
  • Katherine - Nitmiluk Tours
  • Alice Springs - RT Tours Australia
  • Uluru - Maruku @ Uluru
The brochure is available at all the usual tourist outlets, and at each participating business as well as Tourism NT’s consumer website: www.travelnt.com

The production of the brochure is a part of the Tourism Business Development team within the Department of Business, which works with Indigenous Business Australia and Tourism Australia to deliver the Indigenous Tourism Champions Program (ITCP).
