RESTORED HYDRO MAJESTIC OPENS IN BLUE MOUNTAINS

The grand Hydro Majestic Hotel at Medlow Bath in the Blue Mountains has opened its doors to the public today following a six year restoration.

Overlooking the Megalong Valley, the iconic property is steeped in the history of the Blue Mountains. Purchased in 1902 by Department Store owner Mark Foy, the Hydro Majestic was revered as a destination for glamour, style and elegance for visitors from across the globe.

The historically inspired interiors have been refurnished to reference the past and fold into the present with absolute luxe through bespoke design to interpret the many periods of the hotel’s history. Interior designers have created a unique range of carpets, paints, wallpapers and furnishings with Australian designers and suppliers based on period influences referencing the beauty and history of the property.

To celebrate the opening, a series of five exclusive high tea events will be held in The Casino Lobby and The Wintergarden. The Boiler House also opens from today and other venues such as The Salon Du The will open progressively in the coming weeks, bringing the Hydro back to the people of Australia, celebrating its wonderful history and providing a broad palette of dining, event and public facilities.

NSW Premier Mike Baird toured the Hydro Majestic earlier this week and said the reopening of the iconic hotel would attract local and international visitors and would provide a welcome boost to Blue Mountains tourism and the local community.

“The Hydro Majestic is one of the world’s most beautiful hotels in one of the world’s most breathtaking locations, perched above the world-heritage listed Blue Mountains,” he said.

“It’s particularly special to be announcing this magnificent hotel will be reopening 12 months after devastating bushfires caused heartbreak across the Mountains.

“The NSW Government is proud to have been able to support the restoration project with a $100,000 grant, which was used to develop a theatre-style room that will showcase films about the Blue Mountains region and the history of this beautiful property.

“It has all the trimmings expected of a luxury hotel and boasts a spa with world-class treatment rooms and suites boasting priceless views over the Megalong Valley.

“The Blue Mountains is already a popular tourist destination and the reopening of the Hydro Majestic will provide a welcome boost to the community and local businesses.”
