Tourism Minister Liza Harvey said the classic, now in its 29th year, had attracted national and international competitors and featured a number of exciting events across four days.
“The 2014 event includes windsurfing and kitesurfing wave competitions, flyboard demonstrations, a round of Jet Sport West’s jet ski race, a freestyle kitesurfing event as well as the famous 25km Ledge Point to Lancelin windsurfing and kitesurfing marathons,” Mrs Harvey said.
“The classic has also attracted some of the biggest names in windsurfing, including the winner of a staggering 41 world championship titles Bjorn Dunkerbeck and last year’s Lancelin Ocean Classic marathon winner and four-time world champion Steve Allen.
“In addition a number of on-shore activities will take place such as night markets, surf film screenings and a ‘party in the park’ community event.”
The Lancelin Ocean Classic is proudly supported by the State Government.
The Minister said this was just one of the exciting events featured on WA’s diverse events calendar.
“The 2013-14 calendar has a great range of more than 90 sporting, culinary, culture and arts events across Western Australia,” she said.
“These events will not only attract visitors, they will also add vibrancy to the State, provide a boost to the economy and attract media attention which results in valuable exposure of Western Australia.”
