Skateboarding enthusiasts and lovers of action sports won’t want to miss the Australian Bowl-riding Championships™ (ABC) 2014.
ABC, the country’s only national skateboarding event supported by the NSW Government, will be held from Thursday 6 to Sunday 9 February 2014 at a specially-built skateboarding bowl at Bar Beach, Newcastle.
Skateboarders and spectators will be in for a treat, with a stronger than ever line-up of some of Australia’s and the world’s best bowl-riders battling it out in the exciting four-day festival.
“Newcastle is known as producing great sportspeople and our community is really looking forward to the Australian Bowl-riding Championships™ 2014, which will see competitors and visitors gather for a celebration of true Australian skateboarding culture,” Member for Newcastle, Tim Owen said.
Open to both male and female competitors, the event encourages skateboarders from all skill levels and age groups to battle it out to be crowned Australian champion for 2014 and the chance to win a wild card to Vans BOWL-A-RAMA™ Bondi. The ABC also features learn-to-ride skate clinics – provided by Newcastle Skate – as well as a program of entertainment, comprising a variety of art and music events.
Minister for Tourism and Major Events, George Souris said: “The NSW Government, through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, is proud to support the Australian Bowl-riding Championships – now in its third year.
“The event will deliver a boost to the local economy and attract a heightened number of visitors to the region.”

Visitors and competitors to the event are also encouraged to explore the wider Newcastle-Hunter region with its magnificent landscapes, including beaches, countryside and scenic bushland.”
The 2013 Australian Bowl-riding Championships™ saw teenage American skateboarding sensation Alex Sorgente (USA) take out first place for the Pro division, closely followed by Josh Stafford (USA) and in third place, crowned Australian champion Jack Fardell (AUS). The Masters division was clearly the crowd pleaser with legendary skateboarder Pat Ngoho (USA) in first, Adam Luxford (AUS) in second and Lester Kasai (USA) third.
