The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) has notched another first by winning the ‘Purpose Built Convention & Exhibition Centre Award For Excellence’ in the Business Events category at the inaugural rAWr (Recognising Award Winning Results) Awards 2013.

The rAWr Awards is a collaboration between the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) and the Malaysian Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (MACEOS) to recognise excellence, leadership, professional standards, innovation and best practices within the Meeting, Incentive, Convention and Exhibition (MICE) or business events industry.

Speaking on the Centre’s success at the rAWr Awards Night officiated by Minister of Tourism & Culture, YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri bin Abdul Aziz, General Manager Datuk Peter Brokenshire conveyed the Centre’s delight at receiving the award. “We are honoured and elated to be on the winners’ list of the inaugural rAWr Awards”.

“This recognition by our peers is an acknowledgement of our contribution to the growth and development of the country’s business tourism sector and further boosts our position as one of Asia’s leading convention centres, a world-class facility offering innovative products and services to meet the evolving needs of local and international clients.”

Datuk Brokenshire said the award will motivate the team to continue delivering on the Centre’s vision of ‘turning heads by making a difference with a team of dedicated, connected professionals, striving for perfection and excellence to become the global market’s preferred choice where all things are possible’.

“The Centre would not be where we are today without the dedication, professionalism and commitment demonstrated by all team members. This is their award and I congratulate them on winning it.”

Datuk Brokenshire also extended congratulations to MyCEB and MACEOS on this initiative. “Given the increasing value of business tourism to the nation’s tourism receipts, the importance of a programme like this cannot be underestimated. I am confident the rAWr Awards will spur all stakeholders to continue upgrading and enhancing the quality and delivery of their products and services at the same time, raise the level of professionalism so Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia remain a destination of choice for the global meetings industry.”

The rAWr Awards covered 27 categories within the four main components of the MICE industry including Best International Conference, Best Trade Exhibition, Best Incentive Programme, Best Event and Best Environmental Initiative.
