Watch the world go by when you stay at Metro Apartments on Darling Harbour

Living in the Upper Hunter Valley of NSW Australia our family rarely gets the opportunity to travel down to Sydney. Recently my wife and I enjoyed a rare weekend stay in Sydney, when we stayed at the fantastic Metro Apartments on Darling Harbour on the Saturday and Sunday nights. The purpose of the visit was twofold - to attend a friends engagement party on the Saturday and to an opera on the Sunday.

The beaut thing about the Metro Apartments on Darling Harbour is its location. It is at 132-136 Sussex St (corner of King Street) is on the city side of Darling Harbour, so has easy access to all the entertainment options at Darling Harbour and the CBD.

Rather than traveling by taxi, we went there by CityRail train and walked the few blocks from Wynyard Station. We could have also alighted at Town Hall Station, or caught a ferry to the King Street Wharf. There is no car parking at Metro Apartments On Darling Harbour, but they have discounted rates at a nearby public car park.

On the Sunday we walked to Town Hall Station and caught the train to Circular Quay Station. We strolled around the Rocks area visiting some of the many art galleries located there, browsed the Street Markets and dropped into the Museum of Contemporary Art. In the afternoon we explored the beauty of the Botanical Gardens and then walked to see the opera at the Sydney Opera House.

Unlike other large city hotels, there are only 26 apartments at the Metro Apartments On Darling Harbour. This suited us as it offered a more intimate atmosphere to our stay in this boutique style accommodation. Our spacious apartment was on level 7, which was the top floor and accessed by two lifts. It gave wonderful views over Darling Harbour through enormous cathedral style windows which went from the floor of the ground floor level to the ceiling of the loft level. There were no tall office buildings blocking the view towards Darling Harbour, as the view was over the Aquariums low roof line.

During the day the sun shone on the glistening waters of the Harbour and at night the colourful lights of the buildings surrounding the Harbour were reflected in the water as the stars twinkled overhead. We viewed the Saturday Firework Display from our Metro Apartments On Darling Harbour balcony.

Our Executive Apartment was on two levels which gave it a special wow factor. On the ground floor was a well equipped large kitchen,  spacious lounge room and balcony. The kitchen had not only a microwave oven, but a full sized conventional oven as well. We did not use either of these, as we ate out for our meals. However, these would be ideal for someone staying a longer period of time to cook  their meals if they so desired. A large screen LCD TV offered a choice of free to air and 28 free Foxtel stations to chose from. On the loft level was the large bathroom and bedroom with a gloriously comfortable queen-sized bed. The bathroom had a shower and bath, and also a washing machine and dryer. The rooms are all smoke-free and offer free wireless internet.

To get to Darling Harbour from the Metro Apartments On Darling Harbour it was a simple matter of crossing Sussex Street then taking the footbridge over the Western Distributor and we were there. We walked down to Darling Harbour on the Saturday evening and had our evening meal at one of the many restaurants at Cockle Bay Wharf. We were enticed by a sandwich board out the front of a restaurant that offered meals for under $10 and we were not disappointed by the large tasty meals presented.

We entered Darling Harbour next to the complex housing Sea Life Sydney Aquarium, Wild Life Sydney and Madam Tussauds. People wanting to visit these top-rated tourist attractions would find the Metro Apartments on Darling Harbour the ideal place to stay at as it is so close. The King Street Wharf restaurants and bars were on our right and the IMAX Theatre and Cockle Bay Wharf restaurants, bars, takeaways and event venues were on our left. If we had crossed the Pyrmont Bridge over Darling Harbour we could have easily walked to the Maritime Museum, Powerhouse Museum, Harbourside Shopping Centre, Sydney Convention & Exhibition Center and the Star Casino. If we had stayed on the city side of Darling Harbour we could have easily walked to the IMAX  Theatre, Sydney Entertainment Centre, Paddy's Markets and Chinatown.
