Hunter Festival of Sport

The annual nib Hunter Festival of Sport which is proudly presented by the Hunter Academy of Sport is on again in 2011 from 2 - 17 July. This year there has been a large increase in the number of activities conducted in the coalfields suitable for Adult, Families, Kids, Seniors, Youth, and Groups


Many events will take place in Maitland, Cessnock, Kurri Kurri, Rutherford, Ashtonfield and Beresfield as well as the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie areas.It is envisaged that this year the Festival will attract more than 15,000 participants throughout the Hunter Region who will take part in close to 200 activities.  Anyone can participate, there is something for everyone and a broad range of ages is catered for from pre-school activities to the mature adult.


The aim of the Festival is to get people active during the July school holidays, expose them to new sports and to have fun. Activities in the coalfields include Come and Try Sessions in Riffle Shooting at Cessnock - 26th June, Sporty Kids for 2-6 year olds at Rutherford - 4th July, Hockey Fun Day at Cessnock - 5th July, and Laser Tag at Beresfield - 14th July.


Coaching clinics will take place in Netball at Cessnock - 7th July, Rugby Union Hunter Camp Waratah at Ashtonfield - 14th July. Competitions will also take place in Masters Swimming at Kurri Kurri - 9th July, nib Netball Tournament - Maitland on the 13th, 14th & 15th July at the Federation Centre, Bent St, Maitland and the Lawler Partners Running Festival at Pokolbin - 17th July.
