Charlie the Musical Opens Tonight in Aberdeen

“Charlie” a singing, dancing, musical comedy will be presented by the students of St Josephs High School, Aberdeen, NSW Australia. This is the story of Willy Wonka & his Chocolate Factory, and is based on Ronald Darhl’s book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”. It is inspired also by the 1971 movie “Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”, which featured Gene Wilder as Willie Wonka, and the 2005 movie featuring Johnny Depp. The musical was written by a former teacher of the school.

The show features more than 100 students from years 7 to 11 who have painted the sets, made the props, play in the 10-piece band, or perform on stage. Dominic Fitzegerald, who is in year 8, plays the part of Charlie, and Jordan Gaegeler, who is in year 11, plays Willy Wonka,. and Daniel Richards, also in year 11, plays Grandpa Jo.

"Charlie" the fun musical was performed to more than 600 primary school students yesterday, and it has its opening public performance tonight in the school hall at 7pm Friday 22nd July Other shows will be on Saturday 23rd at 5pm, Sunday 24th at 2pm. Friday 29th & Saturday 30th at 7pm. Admission is Adults $15, Pensioners $10, Students $5, under 6 free. Tickets are available from the school office on 6543 7444

Our family enjoyed attending tonight's performance, and can recommend it to others who would like some bright entertainment.  It was wonderful seeing a large cast and crew work together as a team to present the show for the enjoyment of others. Highlights were some of the solo singing, the dancing, the live band, and special effects. Hopefully the microphone bugs will be fixed for the remaining performances and the time taken for scene changes will speed up. It was a pity to see the stereotyping of people from other nations and the aged in this production. Still, it was an excellent school production and worthy of all the pupils, teachers and parents.hard work.
