To focus on the Philippines as a fantastic honeymoon destination, the Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT Beijing) organized a wedding and honeymoon consumer promotions in Beijing for two weeks and invited the public to watch “Romantic Philippines”, a wedding and honeymoon fashion show and musical production featuring the wedding gowns and resort wear of internationally-acclaimed Filipino fashion designer Renee Salud, set against a backdrop of Philippine wedding and honeymoon island destinations. The show also featured the local talents tenor Jonathan Badon and violinist Merjohn Lagaya. Directed by Raymond Villanueva, the wedding and honeymoon fashion show included Bb. Pilipinas Universe and Mr. World Philippines title-holders as models.
The event, held from 26-29 May at the 18th Beijing Wedding Expo, was very well received and successfully attracted enthusiastic crowds to the tour offerings of the Philippines as a honeymoon destination. Other activities include: the DOT Philippine Evening at Kerry Centre Hotel on 31 May; the Philippine Embassy’s ASEAN Ladies Night on 2 June; and the Jinyuan Yansha Mall Wedding & Honeymoon Consumer Promotions on 3-5 June 2011.
Beijing tour operators CTS Southeast Asia View, Jiedajiaqi (JITS), and Beijing Longway Int’l Travel Service participated in the consumer promotions and sold their Manila-Boracay, Manila-Palawan, and Manila-Cebu-Bohol honeymoon packages to the public.
The country has experienced a growing popularity as a honeymoon destination, even among celebrities and stars in China. An increasing number of young Chinese couples are choosing the romantic islands of Boracay, Palawan, Cebu and Bohol as ideal places to spend their honeymoon. The wedding and honeymoon market in China is worth approximately USD$ 405. 53 million annually and the Philippine consumer promotions was a DOT Beijing marketing activity aimed at increasing the Philippine share of this lucrative market.
