Its sad news for people wanting to fly on the budget airline in Australia. Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) is seeking an extension of the grounding of Tiger Airways flights until 1 August. The extension was needed as its investigations will not be completed by the end of the initial five-day suspension period.
Some people think that Tiger Airways will not resume its operations in Australia because it has not made a profit here, the costs of the grounding and how safety concerns will impact on future ticket sales.
However, Tiger Airways has reaffirmed its commitment to Australia as the Singapore-backed low-cost airline continues talks with regulators about restarting flights. Tiger Airways is addressing concerns by the Civil Aviation and Safety Authority as well as undertaking its own review.
Tony Davis, Tiger’s new Australian CEO, said “It’s about a fresh start, it’s about addressing anything that needs to be addressed and it’s about having a long-term, viable, safe airline here in Australia. We're investing significantly in the long-term future of Tiger Australia and my appointment to lead the organisation is a tangible demonstration of that”.
