The Biggest celebration of the year is almost upon us! TET

It is important to note the National Holidays for Traditional Vietnamese New Year (Tet) in 2021 will be from 10th February to 17th February 2021 , in which the 11th February becomes New Years Eve, and the 12th February becomes New Years Day, the 1st day of New Year. It is the Year of Buffalo. The first day of the year is a very important day for those visiting their family friends, as this day sets the scene for prosperity for the following year.

The ITS office will be closed during Tet Holidays. We have a Hotline number set up for emergencies - (24/7) 84 (0)936631705 and you can reach us by email, as on of our team will always be on standby to answer at team@itsvietnam.com

What is it about TET?

For Vietnamese, Tet is the most important festival of the year. You will find locals everywhere making offerings and praying in temples. Families go to visit the graves of ancestors, and generally there is a major clean up in preparation. Homes are cleaned and decorated with Hoa Mai (yellow apricot blossom), Hoa Dao (peach blossom), Kumquat tree and many other colorful flowers. You will see the flower vendors lining the streets selling their flowers of all kinds. It is a particularly colourful time of year in the cities and there is a spirit of excitement and giving in the air.

On the eve of Tet, many Vietnamese will cook special food like Banh Chung or Banh Tet (a sticky rice cake). Children are encouraged to wear new clothes and dress up as they will receive “lucky money” in red envelopes. In general terms, Tet is all about family and friends. It is common for Vietnamese to travel many miles to meet up with old friends and family during this time. Less traditional people will use the time to take holidays and enjoy special occasions with friends as well as family as that is the spirit of this time.

Traveller Information for TET - Important facts to know about Vietnam during Tet Holiday

  1. Transportation: It’s a busy time as everyone is in a rush to get home to family to enjoy in all the celebrations. From about 1 week prior and 1 week after, you can expect flights, buses and trains to be booked out. So be sure to book as early as possible. In addition, make sure you arrive early to board your transportation as queues will be long. It is also important you are healthy as you may incur Covid Temperature checks and will not be able to travel if you are deemed unwell or any risk to other travellers.
  2. Accommodation: Most hotels remain open, so there is no need to worry about accommodation. However, some hotels may raise the price if you stay during Tet holiday and there will be minimal services available during the actual public holidays as the hotels are maintained on a very low base of staff.
  3. Sightseeing: Some tourist sites remain open during Tet, but many museums, mausoleums, and indoor exhibition place and art houses will be closed for the first 3 days of Tet. The floating markets in the Mekong Delta will be closed. It would be wise before making any plans to visit to check online and with locals or your hotel to avoid disappointment.
  4. Restaurants: Many restaurants will be closed during Tet and those open may not be offering the most freshest of foods. Therefore, Tet may not be the best time for culinary tour fans.
  5. Shops: Many shops will be closed for the first few days of Tet Festival. The good news is - many products will be sold at a very reasonable price because most sellers want to start a smooth sales year.
  6. Banks: banks will be closed for the holiday.

Is TET a good time for first time visitors?

Due to Covid 19 border closures, it is not expected that many foreigners will be visiting Vietnam during this time. For those that are, the main cities will still be operating hotels and some local eateries will be open, however we would suggest visiting after TET when there are many festivals on.

Australia joins growing global trend of branded residences with launch of Mondrian Gold Coast

Australia is emerging as one of the most desirable locations for international hotel-branded private residences as the prestige property trend of incorporating the luxuries of five-star hotel services and amenities into private residences, continues to evolve and expand globally.

Increasing demand for private residences serviced by five-star hotels in prime locations is being driven by individuals seeking sophisticated lifestyle experiences with superior levels of convenience, style, security and services.

The branded residences concept has dominated prestige property markets in major cities like London, New York, Los Angeles and Dubai after first emerging in New York City in the 1920s and top luxury five star hotels in just a few elite cities began incorporating luxury residential apartments until the 1980s when the sector began elevating the residential experience with more focus on exclusive spaces for residents.

Drawing on reports from international property analysts Knight Frank, Savills and JLL, the interest in Australia by five star international hotel brands for the development of branded residences indicates a significant demand for prestige property from buyers seeking greater levels of convenience, security and amenity that promote the ultimate lifestyle.

The announcement that Australia will receive its first Mondrian Hotel and Private Residences, from sbe, the leading international hospitality group that develops, manages and operates award-winning brands, to be built at the world-famous Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast, raises the level of beachfront living beyond anything the country has ever seen.

Australian developer Vitale Projects has partnered with world-leading hospitality groups Accor and sbe to deliver Mondrian Gold Coast on an expansive 4,037sqm (43,453 square foot) beachfront site at southeast Queensland’s popular tourism and lifestyle destination Burleigh Heads.

This coastal Queensland location will be sbe's first hotel property in Australia after the celebrated recent openings of Hyde Paradiso lounge in Surfer's Paradise and Hyde Perth, further expanding the brand's luxury lifestyle experiences in the Asia Pacific. Mondrian Gold Coast is one of nine new Mondrian properties that sbe plans to open globally by 2022, with six more to be announced. It follows the company's recent opening of Mondrian Seoul Itaewon, and the announcement of Mondrian Shoreditch London set to open in 2021.

Chris and Letitia Vitale of Vitale Projects identified the Burleigh Heads, Gold Coast site as ideal for a five-star hotel development that incorporates private residences – pairing the premium style and first-class services of an international hotel with the exclusivity and luxury of prestige residential apartments.

“We are proud to partner with Accor and sbe to bring Mondrian to Australia and set new standards for beachside living and holidaying at Burleigh Heads,” Chris and Letitia Vitale said. “Burleigh Heads is a world-class destination with a unique coastal culture that compliments Mondrian’s luxurious lifestyle experience. Mondrian Gold Coast will reflect the local environment and lifestyle while delivering the highest standards in style, services, security and amenities.”

Chadi Farhat, Chief Operating Officer of sbe said: "We are very excited to announce the opening of our first Mondrian hotel and residences in Australia with our partner Accor and with developers Chris and Letitia Vitale of Vitale Projects. With five open properties, nine in development, and six more to be announced, Mondrian has established itself as one of the strongest brands in the sbe lifestyle portfolio, showing staying power for the long-term. The Gold Coast has grown into one of Australia's leading travel destinations and the opening of Mondrian Gold Coast is the next step in our strategic global expansion for the Mondrian brand, selecting communities at the heart of the most exciting cultural destinations in the world."

Industry observers say leading developers in the prestige residential sector are targeting the branded residences segment as they seek to deliver premier apartments with greater international appeal and higher levels of service and style.

Market demand for prestige apartments with superior levels of convenience and luxury is motivating Australian residential developers to partner with premium hotel brands for the delivery of private designer apartments serviced by five-star internationally renowned hotels.

Property market analysts Knight Frank, Savills and JLL say there are significant advantages underpinning the branded residences segment, including brand affiliation and the prestige associated with luxury international brands, plus the guaranteed delivery of superior levels of style, service, amenity and security that are expected. Other factors motivating buyers of branded private residences are hassle-free ownership as well as strong investment returns from managed rental schemes if the owner chooses not to live in the residence all year round.

Simon McGrath, Chief Executive Officer of Accor Pacific said: “Prestigious private residences have been rapidly growing in popularity around the globe, and that’s largely down to the benefits that these incredible spaces provide. We expect to see a boom in this area, particularly in the current climate, as private residences hold huge appeal as they limit unnecessary contact with other residents. The amenities offered by private residencies mean that owners also have access to additional luxuries and facilities, such as state-of-the-art swimming pools, spas, fitness centres and world-class restaurants. It is in leisure and city destinations that we are really starting to see some momentum in this area.”

Australia’s first five-star Mondrian hotel and branded private residences will be built at 50 The Esplanade on the world-famous Burleigh Heads Beach on the Gold Coast, comprising of a private residential tower of 89 apartments and a separate hotel tower with 208 guestrooms, slated to commence construction in 2021 and be completed by mid-2023. The buildings will be united by a three-level podium that acts as the building’s common space and hub of activity, including a state-of-the-art fitness centre, spa, restaurant, and swimming pool, all overlooking the Burleigh Heads Beach.

Mondrian Gold Coast Private Residences’ luxury two, three and four-bedroom apartments feature unobstructed beach views, entertainer’s balconies, expansive living spaces, butler’s pantries and wine cabinets with residents enjoying full access to five-star hotel amenities and services, including a 24-hour concierge and 24-hour room service, valet carparking and personal drivers while also enjoying the privacy of residents-only amenities in their own building.

With 80 meters (262 feet) of ocean frontage, Mondrian Gold Coast will offer guests and residents direct access to the signature white sands of Burleigh Heads Beach, and world-class cultural and tourism offerings, including the iconic Burleigh Heads National Park, restaurants, cafes, clubs and boutique stores all within a short walking distance.

Accor Sets Ambitious Line-Up for New Hotel Openings in 2021

Accor is kicking off the year with an encouraging development outlook and a full schedule of new hotel openings in Southeast Asia, Japan & South Korea and around the world. While 2020 was a year of unprecedented challenges – not the least of which were felt among the travel and hospitality sectors – Accor maintained a steady pace of development and continued to sign new projects, leading to a robust roster of new hotel openings throughout 2021.

“As we are all too familiar, 2020 had a profound impact on our day-to-day lives and the hospitality industry as a whole; even so, the early stages of a global rebound will be material and significant,” said Agnes Roquefort, Global Chief Development Officer. “Despite the delays and temporary closures we experienced due to the pandemic, we continued to experience sustained momentum across our development pipeline and are optimistic that the worldwide rollout of Covid-19 vaccines will lead to renewed trust in travel and a much greater sense of personal safety for the entire global population.”

Accor's sound financial capacity, worldwide reach, and unrivalled portfolio of brands not only kept the company in a solid position to weather the challenges of 2020, but its development capabilities and organizational model allowed the Group to focus on providing support and service to its owners, developers and partners.

Across Southeast Asia, notable openings include V Villas Phuket – MGallery, a 24-pool villa resort, which will offer five distinctive dining outlets, a swimming pool and a spectacular spa & wellness centre on Thailand's renowned island of Phuket. Over in Manila, the new Admiral Hotel Manila – MGallery is set to offer a portal to the city's golden era with a blend of modern Spanish and Art Deco design. Visitors to Singapore will also be able to experience the country's first MGallery address with the opening of Orchard Hills Residences Singapore – MGallery, an urban wellness retreat which is perfectly situated near to Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay, Singapore Botanic Gardens and Suntec Convention Centre. South Korea will welcome two standout luxury hotels in 2021. The Fairmont Ambassador Seoul is set to debut next month with its 326 rooms & suites offering stunning panoramic views of the city skyline, and a collection of venues for unforgettable social gatherings such as the hotel's rooftop restaurant and bar. The capital city will also be home to the new Sofitel Ambassador Seoul Hotel & Serviced Residences, set to open in late 2021. The hotel and serviced residences will boast an unmatched outlook over Seokchon Lake Park and feature 563 rooms and suites, an allday-dining restaurant and bar, indoor swimming pool, outdoor Jacuzzi, fitness, spa as well as meetings and events spaces.

“We are really pleased to be welcoming such an exciting collection of new hotels to our region in 2021. While the last 12 months have been a challenging period for our industry, we remain very confident in the future outlook for the tourism sector. We are delighted to be in a position where we can further strengthen our network in Southeast Asia, Japan & South Korea, thanks to the trust of our owner partners and expertise of our team. These new hotels will allow our guests to experience a greater array of destinations with the brands that they love. We really look forward to welcoming back our loyal guests and delivering limitless experiences at our latest addresses,” said Garth Simmons, Chief Executive Officer, Accor, Southeast Asia, Japan and South Korea.

The lifestyle category is set to be one of Accor's most vibrant segments over the coming years, with the number of lifestyle hotel openings expected to triple by 2023. Moreover, Accor's lifestyle segment currently accounts for roughly five percent of the Group's annual revenue, while representing 25% of the company's development pipeline by value. The recently announced joint venture with Ennismore, expected to close in Q2 2021, will contribute to a richly diverse platform set to become even more exciting this year with uniquely stylish new properties opening their doors, including Mondrian
Shoreditch London; JO&JOE Vienna Westbahnhof; SO/ Sotogrande Resort & Spa; SLS Dubai and 25hours Dubai.

Accor's luxury segment will also make headlines in 2021 with the Banyan Tree Doha in Qatar and new Raffles openings in Udaipur and Jeddah. Fairmont will see the muchanticipated opening of the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles, along with Fairmont Windsor in England; Carton House, a Fairmont managed hotel in Dublin; Fairmont Ramla Riyadh; Fairmont Ambassador Seoul; and, Fairmont Tagazhout Bay in Morocco. Sofitel will bring French sophistication to several new destinations including Seoul, Hangzhou, and Adelaide.

Conversion opportunities also presented themselves in 2020 and will continue to be a growth driver in 2021 and beyond, as Accor has emerged as the partner of choice among independent hotel owners attracted to the company's renowned flexibility and ease of transition, its unmatched spectrum of brands, and its welcoming culture that celebrates authenticity, diversity and entrepreneurialism.

Across the Group's unrivalled brand portfolio, leading brands for conversion opportunities include The House of Originals (Luxury), MGallery (Upper Premium), Mövenpick (Premium), Grand Mercure (Premium), Mercure (Midscale), ibis Styles (Economy) and greet (Budget). Not surprisingly, these seven brands account for 43% of Accor's opening pipeline over the next five years. For example, MGallery will welcome several new hotels in key gateway locations this year, including Orchard Hills Residences Singapore – MGallery, The Silveri Hong Kong – MGallery, and The Porter House Hotel –
MGallery in Sydney, Australia.

All of the Group's new properties are expected to open in full compliance with Accor's ALLSAFE hygiene and cleanliness label. The ALLSAFE label was established by Accor in mid 2020 to give guests the assurance of a third-party verified standard of hotel cleanliness and hygienic requirements. These standards were developed with and vetted by Bureau Veritas, a world leader in operational testing, inspections and certifications.

For more information, the attached “notable openings” overview provides a high-level glimpse into some of the new Accor properties that guests and travel enthusiasts can expect to enjoy around the world in 2021.

What does success mean?

For me, success is NOT about obtaining the flashy trappings that many people get to impress others when they’ve reached some level of success. To me, it means that I have the ability to help others make significant positive changes in their lives AND that I have the freedom to spend my own time anyway I choose.

To me, being free to do business so that others benefit from it gives me a reason to exist. When this freedom is limited or paused frequently, as it has been since last March, my whole life gets out of whack because nothing feels normal anymore.

I realized that the whole world was in a period of “not normal” so I focused my energy on taking care of the heart and soul of See Italy Travel, my amazing team. We did the best we could to provide meaningful work and income for our See Italy family even when there were no travelers.

We also worked on enhancing the relationships we have with our truly exceptional suppliers, but this wouldn’t have been possible without the help of our WONDERFUL team. This is the same team that takes such exquisite care of our traveling clients. For everything to work smoothly we must have people who are as passionate, dedicated, and committed to our mission as I am.

When we talk about AUTHENTICITY, we mean being real to WHO we are and WHAT we WANT to accomplish. These ideals are always at the forefront when we select the right people to join our team.

When we talk about PASSION, we mean that we only choose people to be part of our team if they love sharing their lives and their love of Italy with others.

When we talk about RELATIONSHIP BUILDING, we mean working with people that don't just wait for a paycheck at the end of the month, but people who are eager to build something that goes both ways, EMOTIONS, IDENTITY, and LOVE. This is done with everybody, our SUPPLIERS, our TEAM PLAYERS, and our CUSTOMERS.

When we talk about BEING ALL IN, we mean that each team member goes about their day working as if the business was their own and the quality of the product was their responsibility. In this way whatever they are doing is something they will be proud to stand behind. It’s a great feeling knowing that what you stand behind is TRUE and GOOD.

What we do is LOVE, what we do is to SERVE others and what we do FILLS us daily. Not having you, right now, not having many SHARING moments right now, makes us APPRECIATE what we used to have and keeps our hope strong for that time to return soon.

A BEATING HEART BEATS.
We miss you and we hope to have you with us AGAIN SOON!

SEE ITALY PRAISES AND LOVE
We receive comments, feedback and praise from clients nearly every day. Below is an example of one we received. Click on the link below to see even more!

I've been selling See Italy Travel for a few years now and want to know first-hand how you folks do things. It's obviously working. Every client I've ever booked with you has come back from Italy a "happy camper."

Just yesterday, Rumsey and Priscilla, who recently returned, dropped by my office unexpectedly to give me a de-briefing of their 2 1/2 week trip arranged by See Italy. He's a retired American Airlines pilot who has traveled the world and always made all their own arrangements.

His comments were "I could have done this myself at a cheaper rate, but it was so worth it to be taken care of from beginning to end. The hotels in Florence, Positano and Rome were out of this world and the staff everywhere we went, from hotels, to drivers, to tour guides were beyond compare. I am recommending you to everyone I know."

That's a short overview from an hour of "de-briefing."

THANK YOU SEE ITALY TRAVEL!!!!!

Sala boutique reveals executive team ahead of latest hotel opening

Sala boutique, the collection of stylish and intimate hotels and resorts by SALA Hospitality Group, has unveiled an exciting line-up of highly-skilled hospitality professionals to head-up sala bang pa-in, the latest addition to its portfolio in Thailand.

Mr. Volkert Geertsen, Cluster General Manager, Mr. Jitti Sukee, Cluster Hotel Manager, and Mr. Fernando Roman, Cluster Executive Chef, have been confirmed as key members of the executive team to lead this exceptional new 24-key hotel, which is scheduled to start welcoming guests in March 2021.

A Dutch citizen and respected international hotelier, Volkert Geertsen will oversee sala bang pa-in as Cluster General Manager of sala boutique, alongside his current responsibilities for sala rattanakosin Bangkok, sala lanna Chiang Mai, sala ayutthaya and sala khaoyai. With over 20 years of experience, 15 of which have been in Thailand and Southeast Asia, he is perfectly positioned to steer this important project.

A Thai national and seasoned industry professional who specialises in F&B, Jitti Sukee is currently Hotel Manager at sala rattanakosin Bangkok, the popular riverside hotel in the historical heart of Thailand’s capital city. As Cluster Hotel Manager, he will now combine these responsibilities with the new hotel, bringing over two decades of expertise to the role.

A South African national with a lifetime of gastronomic skill and knowhow, Fernando Roman is the Cluster Executive Chef for sala boutique. His talent and creativity have elevated the collection’s four hotels to be among the most desired dining destinations in their markets, and he will now work his magic at sala bang pa-in, developing original culinary concepts and mouth-watering menus.

“We are delighted to announce the appointment of Volkert, Khun Sitti and Chef Fernando to these new and expanded roles, as we gear up for the launch of our latest sala boutique hotel. All three gentlemen are well known and respected by our entire team, and they have proven their ability to create outstanding guest experiences. Our existing sala boutique hotels in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Ayutthaya and Khao Lak have become very popular with international guests and local residents alike; with its unique setting and exceptional amenities, supported by such an impressive management team, I am confident that sala bang-in will be similarly successful,” said Jon Ashenden, Vice President Hotel Operations, SALA Hospitality Group.

Nestled on an island in the Chao Phraya River, 60km north of Bangkok and just moments from the Summer Palace, sala bang pa-in will feature 24 river-facing rooms and pool villas, a waterfront restaurant and other exceptional amenities that reflect the region’s romantic heritage. Like every sala boutique property, it will display a contemporary style that infuses the genuine warmth of Thai hospitality with a focus on authentic art, design and culinary creativity. And of course, guests can rest assured that every hotel has been awarded the Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration (SHA) certificate from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

VISITOR ECONOMY STRATEGY 2030 RECEIVES OVERWHELMING INDUSTRY SUPPORT AND ENGAGEMENT

Industry stakeholders have endorsed the NSW Government’s new Visitor Economy Strategy 2030, backing the state’s ambition to become the premier visitor economy of the Asia-Pacific.

The strategy, which was developed by Destination NSW and released on Monday by Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres, is a blueprint to rebuild and grow the state’s visitor economy, providing social and economic benefits to the people of NSW.

Tourism Accommodation Australia CEO Michael Johnson said the strategy addressed the crises the visitor economy had weathered in the past 18 months, and provided a strong plan and clear vision for the rebuilding process.

“We commend the Government and Destination NSW for developing such a robust plan that addresses the current challenging period and the return to pre-COVID and future growth.

“With international borders to remain closed in the foreseeable future it is reassuring the strategy includes an immediate focus on growing visitation from the domestic market,” Mr Johnson said.

NSW Tourism Industry Council Executive General Manager Greg Binskin said as an industry, stakeholders need to plan to not just get back to pre-COVID levels but to leverage the strong performance of NSW through the pandemic.

“Importantly the strategy recognises that the broader visitor economy supply chain includes transport operators, food producers, retail, cultural bodies and the services sector, not just those businesses we would normally associate with tourism in accommodation, attractions and hospitality.

“At 75 million visitors and over $8.3 billion in value to NSW, the inclusion of the day trip market as an area of focus is a good step, particularly in the current environment,” Mr Binskin said.

The Caravan and Camping Industry Association (NSW) welcomed the strategy and the opportunity to continue the strong working relationship with Destination NSW to see it come to fruition.

ASSOCIATION OF DOMESTIC TRAVEL UPBEAT ON DOMESTIC TOUR GOAL

The government’s domestic tourism goal of 200 million trips this year is achievable, though it depends on state support via more stimulus plans, says the Association of Domestic Travel (ADT).

Operators would like the government to flatten the infection rate curve from the hundreds daily to double digits or even a single digit by February, in order to revive travel confidence, said ADT president Thanapol Cheewarattanaporn.

The goal is to revive interprovincial trips by March, starting with low-risk areas, he said.

Around 70% of ADT’s 750 members emerged from the lockdown in the third quarter last year. But the resurgence of the virus affected them again, as less than 20% are operating now.

Tour operators are pinning their hopes on future stimulus schemes from the government — a senior tour programme for 1 million elderly received initial approval and should be implemented once the pandemic subsides, said Mr Thanapol.

The association also proposed a new idea for co-payment for domestic tour programmes, with the government subsidising 50% of tour packages, capped at 3,000 baht for 2 million packages.

Tour packages in the scheme could fall on either weekdays and weekends, but tourists must stay at least one night.

He said the scheme should be launched by April and will be valid for four months. ADT submitted the project outline to the Tourism and Sports Ministry this week, noting the industry is in dire need of assistance after the crisis.
