SUPERPOSITION Festival 2026: Miss Kaninna to Headline Free Waterfront Concert in Penrith

Miss Kaninna
Western Sydney is preparing for an exciting celebration of music, contemporary art and culture as SUPERPOSITION Festival launches its inaugural edition with Portal Penrith on Thursday 26 November 2026.

Headlined by acclaimed Aboriginal artist Miss Kaninna, the free waterfront concert will also feature ARIA-nominated rapper and singer DEVAURA, a spectacular choreographed jet ski performance by award-winning artist Amrita Hepi and an impressive programme of live entertainment.

Taking place at the iconic Sydney International Regatta Centre, Portal Penrith promises an unforgettable evening celebrating creativity, community and cultural connections on Dharug and Gundungurra Country.

Miss Kaninna Headlines an Exciting Music Line-up

Following her sold-out national tour, Miss Kaninna will bring her powerful live performance to the Nepean River for one night only.

A Yorta Yorta, Dja Dja Wurrung, Kalkadoon and Yirendali artist from Bruny Island, Miss Kaninna made Australian music history in 2024 when her debut single Blak Britney reached number one on triple j and received three ARIA nominations. She became the first independent Aboriginal woman to receive an ARIA nomination for a debut single.

Her achievements continued with nine further ARIA nominations across 2025 and 2026. Her debut EP KANINNA also won two AIR Awards in 2025.

Following an 18-date sold-out tour of the United Kingdom and Europe with Kneecap, she returns to Australian audiences with an energetic performance combining powerful music, identity and cultural expression.

Supporting the headline performance is DEVAURA, an Aotearoa-born, Western Sydney-raised rapper and singer. Her distinctive live performances combine jersey-club rhythms, punk-influenced guitar and R&B.

DEVAURA has received recognition at the SXSW Sydney and FBi SMAC Awards and was a triple j Unearthed Laneway Competition winner in 2025. Her EP Vol. 2 If You Don't Laugh, You'll Cry earned a nomination for Best Hip Hop/Rap Release at the 2026 ARIA Awards.

Samoan DJ, MC and podcaster Rocky Stallone will keep the energy flowing throughout the evening with jersey club, baile funk, house and R&B.

Spectacular Jet Ski Performance on the Water

One of the festival's major attractions will be Stunt Ballet, an extraordinary water-based performance created by award-winning artist Amrita Hepi.

Working alongside a local jet ski stunt crew, Hepi presents a choreographed spectacle exploring movement, speed and the relationship between people and the natural environment.

The performance promises to transform the waterside setting into an exciting stage for contemporary art and entertainment.

Art, Dance and Cultural Experiences

DEVAURA
The celebrations begin with Melbourne's Deep Soulful Sweats, an energetic participatory performance combining exercise, choreography and playful astrological themes to get audiences moving.

The festival also opens with a special river ritual by Fio Gede Parma, a Balinese-Australian witch and author. Drawing on Balinese holy water traditions and Celtic river-goddess lore, the ceremony acknowledges the river, the land and ancestral connections.

At Lewers: Penrith Regional Gallery, visitors can enjoy an evening of contemporary art, live music, shadow puppetry, poetry, workshops and local DJs. The programme includes performances by Bria McCarthy and Elyas Alavi, a beading workshop with Sione Mōnu and activities with local collective Potluck ARI.

Visitors can also explore Piece by Piece, a major visual arts exhibition featuring works and commissions by artists including Adrienne Doig, Rosalie Gascoigne, Antony Gormley, Julie Gough and Khaled Shabsabi.

Theatre and Contemporary Performance at The Joan

The festival extends into the performing arts with the world premiere of She Rested at The Joan Performing Arts Centre.

Presented by UTP and Kurinji, the production is written and performed by Aimée Falzon, with video by Eddie Abd and dramaturgy by Dr Jessica Olivieri and S. Shakthidharan.

Combining live vocals, soundscapes and visual storytelling, this deeply personal production explores motherhood, identity and the experiences of becoming a mother.
