The destination management company’s popular Chiang Mai Sacred Paths and Trails itinerary has received independent recognition from the Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR), following an assessment commissioned by Thailand’s Department of Tourism.
The certification recognises the quality, safety and responsible tourism practices behind this distinctive half-day walking and cultural experience, offering visitors an opportunity to explore two of Chiang Mai’s most significant Buddhist temples.
A Journey to Chiang Mai’s Sacred Temples
The Chiang Mai Sacred Paths and Trails experience begins with a guided walk through the forest to Wat Pha Lat, a peaceful Buddhist temple tucked into the wooded foothills of Doi Suthep.
Known as the monastery on the sloping rock, Wat Pha Lat dates back to the fourteenth century and was founded during the reign of King Kuena of the Lanna Kingdom.
Situated approximately 630 metres above sea level, the temple originally served as a resting place for pilgrims travelling on foot towards the more elevated Wat Phra That Doi Suthep.
Surrounded by lush vegetation, flowing water and impressive natural rock formations, Wat Pha Lat offers a tranquil atmosphere away from the busy streets of Chiang Mai. Its traditional architecture, Buddhist statues and peaceful surroundings make it a rewarding destination for visitors interested in Thai culture, spirituality and history.

Positioned approximately 1,073 metres above sea level, the temple provides spectacular views across Chiang Mai and the surrounding countryside.
Its golden chedi, intricate Buddhist architecture and important religious significance make it one of the region's most recognisable landmarks.
Together, the two temples provide a fascinating introduction to Chiang Mai's Buddhist traditions, Lanna heritage and mountain landscapes.
Independent Recognition for Safety and Quality
Khiri Travel applied to participate in Thailand's Tourism Standard programme, resulting in an extensive assessment of its trekking experience.
The inspection was conducted by the Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research, appointed by the Department of Tourism.
Auditors examined the walking route, guide knowledge, safety procedures, operational management and the company's commitment to responsible tourism.
The assessment also included interviewing staff, participating in the hike, questioning local guides and reviewing accident prevention and emergency response procedures.
Customer feedback processes were another important part of the evaluation.
The experience subsequently received Trekking Standard for Tourism certification under TTS 401:2016, valid until September 2029. Khiri Travel can display the Thailand Tourism Standard logo when promoting this particular itinerary.
Naphat Kasikitworakul, Manager of Khiri Travel's Chiang Mai office, described the Wat Pha Lat hiking trail as one of the company's signature experiences, valued for its peaceful atmosphere, natural surroundings and cultural significance.
