DUBBO AND MUDGEE TO WELCOME MORE VISITORS FROM HONG KONG

Taronga Western Plains Zoo
Dubbo and Mudgee are likely to be on more Hong Kong travellers’ must-see lists, thanks to a cooperative marketing initiative between the State’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, and the Hong Kong travel trade.

Member for Dubbo Troy Grant said the collaboration with Cathay Pacific Airways and their top 10 travel agents was a new initiative for Destination NSW, designed to increase visitor expenditure in rural and regional NSW.

“Never before have we promoted travel itineraries that include Mudgee and Dubbo via Cathay Pacific Airways,” Mr Grant said.

“Last month the Hong Kong travel agents experienced our region first-hand, exploring Taronga Western Plains Zoo, Mudgee wineries and some of our best boutique luxury accommodation, helping them to promote and sell Country NSW to their clients back home.”

The promotion will run until the end of October 2018.

Muong Lo Tourism-Culture Week to resume on October 12-14

The Muong Lo Tourism-Culture Week and the Mu Cang Chai Terraced Field Festival will take place in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai on October 12-14, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Duong Van Tien has said.

Many activities will be arranged in the week, including art performances, exhibitions, and a Muong Lo cake festival, among others.

Accordingly, the Miss Muong Lo contest is slated for October 12, while a carnival with the participation of 100 artists and an art performance will take place the next day.

Notably, the “Yen Bai - Heritage Journey” programme which will start on October 13 morning will be a highlight of the events.

Meanwhile, the Mu Cang Chai Terraced Field Festival will also feature various activities, such as a contest of H’Mong panpipe performance, a goat fight, community tourism activities and a photo exhibition on terraced paddy fields by domestic famous photographers.

Earlier, Yen Bai decided to suspend all recreational activities in the province, including the Muong Lo Tourism-Culture Week and the Mu Cang Chai Terraced Field Festival, due to President Tran Dai Quang’s sudden passing.

Mu Cang Chai has 500 hectares of rice terraces in La Pan Tan, Che Cu Nha and De Xu Phinh communes, cultivated by the H'mong people for centuries. The local terraces are among the 2,500 hectares recognised as national heritage sites in 2007 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The locality is about 1,000 metres above sea level, making it impossible to grow rice the same way as in the plain. Local residents grow rice in terraced fields to make the full use of the limited water flow.

Terraced fields in Mu Cang Chai are beautiful year-round. Visitors in March can see glittering ponds before locals start to cultivate rice between April and May. After May, the hills are covered in green until the fields start to turn golden with ripening rice in early September.

During the harvest in October, the golden rice fields stand out amidst green forests.

AIME 2019 to Increase International Buyer Attendance

  • Refreshed event to deliver the largest and most diverse group of Asia Pacific based buyers

The Asia Pacific Incentives and Meetings Event (AIME) has today announced its commitment to bringing more quality buyers from across globe, with 60% originating outside of Australia.

In a first, all expressions of interest will initially undergo a rigorous and thorough vetting process from the AIME Hosted Buyer Manager to check preliminary suitability.

Four months before the industry event commences (running 18–20 February), AIME 2019 has already confirmed over 200 quality buyers from across 32 different countries, with 42% having never attended AIME before.

To qualify, all buyers must provide examples of budgets they manage, past events they have organised and details of scheduled events that will take place in the next five years. Additionally, they must pass up to four compulsory industry reference checks.

“Through rigorous curation, we are committed to bringing buyers and exhibitors from across the whole Asia Pacific so that AIME is reflective of the diversity and depth of the region. It’s about the right people, selling or buying, being on the show floor ready to do business”, said Matt Pearce, CEO, Talk2 Media & Events.

“The new buyer vetting process was seamless while also being highly personalised. It was great to have AIME’s Hosted Buyer Manager contact me directly to advise that I had been successfully selected for the program. I’m looking forward to seeing what AIME 2019 has to offer and how it can help drive more business outcomes”, said Brooke Cowdroy, Manager, Account Operations Asia-PAC at Experient, Microsoft.

The new vetting process also has added flexibility, allowing buyers to attend AIME 2019 in two ways; as either a Hosted Buyer or as a Pre-Registered Trade Buyer, both providing a clear and measurable return on investment.

The Hosted Buyer Program includes a fully curated experience, return flights and 4–5-star accommodation, carefully located close to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Hosted attendees will be required to commit to 32 pre-scheduled appointments (PSAs) and attend all formal networking events, as well as Melbourne Convention Bureaus’ Uncover Melbourne Program.

Whereas for a moderate fee, Pre-Registered Trade Buyers have the option to select the number of PSAs they wish to make, attend all the networking events, and have the flexibility to attend one, two or three days at AIME 2019.

For more details or to submit interest in attending AIME in 2019, visit aime.com.au.

NSW STILL AUSTRALIA'S NUMBER ONE DESTINATION

NSW
NSW continues its reign as Australia’s leading tourism State with record numbers of visitors turbocharging the economy, generating jobs and driving investment in local communities as they choose to visit NSW ahead of other States.

Queensland was the third best performer however, NSW still led its northern rival by 10.5 million visitors, 13 million nights and $2.8 billion in expenditure.

Viet Nam among world’s budget-destinations to travel to before you turn 30

Viet Nam has been ranked sixth among the seven budget-destinations to travel to before you turn 30, according to a list released by Cutacut, a digital content company.

If you speak to anyone who is an avid traveler, they’ll tell this: traveling is for the soul, what eating is for the body. “Again, Viet Nam is a good option to tie-in on your trip to Thailand without turning you finances upside down,” Cuttacut wrote.

Sri Lanka tops the list, followed by Thailand, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Viet Nam, Indonesia.
Earlier, Viet Nam has been ranked 13th among the 20 best places to visit in October, according to a list released by Condé Nast Traveller, a UK travel magazine.

“October is the beginning of dry season in Viet Nam’s north and south, where monumental natural spectacles and buzzing city scenes both abound. Up top, hill station Sapa is the gateway to misty treks, Hanoi is all chaos, condensed-milk coffees on low plastic stools and some of the best food you’ll ever taste,” Condé Nast Traveller wrote.

In addition, the Mekong Delta is a whole world bobbing on canals and streams, and Ho Chi Minh City is where the bohos go, don’t miss The Café Apartment, a nine-storey block stuffed with fairy-lit mini-boutiques and craft coffee stores.

Viet Nam welcomed some 11.616 million foreign visitors in the first nine months of 2018, an 22.9% increase from the same period last year, the General Statistics Office (GSO) has said in a monthly report.

Arrivals by air, road, and sea in the reviewed period recorded annual increases of 17.4%, 62.1%, and 0.5%, respectively, while growth was also seen in the numbers of visitors from all five continents.
