Centara Grand 'Railway' Hotel Hua Hin
Step Back in Time at Centara Grand 'Railway' Hotel Hua Hin and experience a taste of Hua Hin's royal history. From its humble beginnings as The Railway Hotel, accommodating visitors to King Rama VI's summer palace, to its present-day status as one of Asia's most romantic resorts, this hotel has a story to tell. Nestled in the heart of this historic beach town on the sunrise side of the Gulf of Siam, the 251 guest rooms offer superb luxury in an Old World setting.

Her ๐‘๐จ๐ฒ๐š๐ฅ ๐‡๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ง๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐œ๐ž ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐š๐œ๐ก๐š๐ญ๐ซ๐š ๐‰๐š๐ฒ๐š๐ค๐š๐ซ๐š, ๐‡๐‘๐‡ ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐œ๐ž ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐Š๐š๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ก๐š๐ž๐ง๐ ๐ฉ๐ก๐ž๐ญ ๐€๐ค๐ค๐š๐ซ๐š๐ฒ๐จ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ง, developed and successfully administrated the Railway system of Thailand. ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐œ๐ž ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐š๐œ๐ก๐š๐ญ๐ซ๐š personally oversaw the construction of the Railway Hotel. It was his intention to raise the standard of accommodation in Hua Hin.

As you stroll through the 13 hectares of private landscaped gardens, you’ll feel the old-world charm that reflects "Old Siam." One of the first things that strikes you as you walk in is the amazing fragrance of the teak wood furnishings throughout the hotel and around the superbly maintained guestrooms and suites that date back to 1923. In fact, while you’re there, make sure that you drop in to the hotel's museum that showcases its historical past with artefacts and antiques.

Check out the iconic 100-year-old elephant statue, "Khun Chokedee", standing proud in the garden. Immerse yourself in the hotel's past as a filming location for two famous movies, "The Killing Fields" and "The Quest". The hotel has even earned recognition from Thai architects for its efforts in preserving Thai culture.

The ‘Railway Hotel’ is also serving up some seriously tasty eats. At the Railway restaurant, you can chow down on both Thai and Western flavours that pay homage to the country's rail history, like the must-try "Khao Phad Rot Fai". Head to Coast Beach Club & Bistro for a chic dining experience featuring global cuisine, handcrafted pizzas, grill-fresh meats, and seafood - all while soaking up the tropical beach vibes. Take a trip back in time at the Museum Coffee and Tea Corner with a proper British high tea. And when it's time to unwind, hit up the Elephant Bar to chill and relax with family and friends.

Australian convention centres join the call for a united industry voice

The Australian Convention Centre Group (ACCG), comprising representatives from the nation’s leading convention and exhibition centres, have passed a resolution to support the amalgamation of relevant industry associations, in the interest of the broader event sector.

This follows a similar resolution by the Exhibitions and Events Association of Australia (EEAA) in December, when EEAA members unanimously moved a motion to allow its Board to merge with the Association of Australian Convention Bureaux (AACB) and Australian Convention Centre Group (ACCG), creating a new entity. Yesterday, the AACB also unanimously passed the same motion.

The ACCG, comprised of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, International Convention Centre Sydney, Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, Cairns Convention Centre, Adelaide Convention Centre and Darwin Convention Centre has echoed the calls from AACB and EEAA to pursue a single, unified voice for the industry.

Business events play an enormous role in Australia’s economy, contributing more than $36 billion nationally in the year prior to COVID-19. But beyond the immediate economic benefits, business events catalyse change and leave lasting legacies, through knowledge exchange, communication of research and subsequent investment in innovation.

Currently, the industry voice is splintered across multiple associations, which can at times make it challenging to advocate the sector’s value.

Advocating for the change, members of the ACCG argued and agree that the business events sector would benefit enormously from a single, amalgamated peak body to support growth and industry development.

The Bracken Hide, Isle of Skye

www.skyecowshed.co.uk
The Bracken Hide, a new ‘wilderness hotel’ on the Isle of Skye will open at the end of March 2023.

The Isle of Skye is connected to Scotland's northwest coast by bridge, and is known for its rugged landscapes, picturesque fishing villages and medieval castles.

The largest island in the Inner Hebrides archipelago, it has a coastline of peninsulas and narrow lochs, radiating out from a mountainous interior.

The luxury 4-star Bracken Hide has been designed to ‘mimic a blade that appears to have been uprooted from the landscape’.

The Hub, the focal point of the hotel will house the restaurant, whisky bar and lounge and there will be 45 en suite cabins, set in clusters across the 53-acre site.

Next to the hub is a pair of Nordic saunas with a plunge pool and pond for wild swimming and views of the Cuillin hills or the Isle of Raasay.

The Bracken Hide has been created by Miranda and Charlie Garton-Jones, who also have the Cowshed Boutique Bunkhouse, also on Skye.

Dogs are welcome at the Bracken Hide. For guests looking to explore more of the island, the hotel has partnered with Skye Adventure, who will offer adventures from scaling the iconic Cuillin to kayaking along the fractured coastline.

The hotel is within walking distance of Portree, the island’s main town with a collection of restaurants and shops, and next door to the hotel is Target Sports, who offer axe throwing and archery.

Great Ocean Road named the Ultimate Aussie Road Trip for 2023

Great Ocean Road, Victoria. Credit: Visit Victoria
The votes have been cast and for the second year in a row Australians are looking forward to taking a road trip along Victoria’s iconic coastal route

The world’s leading Dash Cam manufacturer Nextbase has announced the Great Ocean Road in Victoria is the Ultimate Nextbase Road Trip Australians are planning to take in 2023.

Coming in second place is the trek from Cairns to Cape York in Queensland, and third is the Margaret River Coastline in Western Australia, all showing how much Australians love a drive along a beautiful coastline. The Tasmanian Ring Road dropped from third in 2022 to finish fourth for 2023.

Over a thousand votes were cast to find out what Australia’s Ultimate Nextbase Road Trip for 2023 would be and the results show that 1 in 4 Aussie road trip fans are looking to venture along Victoria’s coastline.

2023 Ultimate Nextbase Road Trip results:
  1. Great Ocean Road, Victoria
  2. Cairns to Cape York, Queensland
  3. Margaret River Coastline, West Australia
  4. Tasmanian Ring Road, Tasmania
  5. Perth to Ningaloo, Western Australia
  6. Kangaroo Island, South Australia
  7. Darwin to Katherine, Northern Territory
  8. Grand Pacific Drive, New South Wales
  9. Great Alpine Road, Victoria
  10. Adelaide to Coober Pedy, South Australia
  11. Great Green Way, Queensland
  12. Lismore Loop, New South Wales

Nextbase Ambassador and Supercar driver David Reynolds is looking forward to seeing Australians hit the road throughout 2023 to see the country but with increased traffic on the road to visit these iconic road trip destinations, urges safety, patience and the correct tools in place to protect your friends, family and other road users.

“We all love hitting the road with family or mates, stopping in at a local bakery on the way, there is no better way to see the country. The Great Ocean Road has amazing scenery along the coast line and into the Otway’s rainforest. It's a must drive for every Australian.

“Whenever you hit the road for a trip, safety needs to stay top of mind. Having a Nextbase Dash Cam will capture what you see on the road, and in case of an accident, the Emergency SOS feature will contact emergency services for you. It’s a must for me when I’m travelling with my family – especially along those long and windy roads along the Great Ocean Road. Plenty of cars are parked at the side of the road to capture a view of those breathtaking views, so be careful when passing or rejoining the road.” David Reynolds said.

As part of the competition, five lucky voters have won a Nextbase Dash Cams’ Road Trip prize pack, featuring a Nextbase 622GW prize pack, $500 fuel voucher, and a $500 Airbnb voucher. Congratulations to Fiona Osborne (Lysterfield, VIC), Peter Clements (Parkesbourne, NSW), Greg Heinl (Chevallum, QLD), Anne-Marie Fensom (Illawong, NSW) and Fred Goodwin.

Sadly Victoria is witnessing a tragic start to the year with too many lives already lost in 2023, road safety must remain paramount. With international arrivals to Australia jumping up to over two million in 2022, Australia’s beautiful tourism sights and destinations will be busy and popular destinations. Having a Dash Cam in your car can help protect you with 26 percent of Aussie drivers admitting that they change their driving behaviour if they believe that they are being recorded behind the wheel, with 1 in 4 Australian motorists using a Dash Cam.

Nextbase’s Head of Territory for Australia & New Zealand, Ben Sinica said: “It’s really heartwarming to see the dedication we have to our beautiful roads across the country. No matter where you drive for your next holiday, it’s always a good idea to cover yourself if the worst case scenario becomes reality. Nextbase Dash Cams not only record footage that you can use as part of an insurance claim or criminal investigation, but they also have our world-first Emergency SOS feature which alerts authorities to your location if you have a serious accident. Where you save money on flights, invest in your safety on the road with a Dash Cam and get that peace of mind for you and your loved ones for your next road trip.”

Nextbase Dash Cams are the very best you can buy, with models ranging in price from just $99 to the globally multi-award winning premium 622GW 4K model, at $549.99. Nextbase’s 622GW model feature’s Nextbase’s world first Emergency SOS system, using what3words location system to alert authorities to your location, ability to record 4K quality video, digital image stabilisation which cancels out vibrations from the vehicle and bumpy roads and integrated Alexa voice control.
