Kyoto’s Kinkaku-ji, or Golden Pavilion |
Originally built as a villa for a court noble, it was converted into a temple in the 15th century.
Each floor incorporates three distinct architectural styles: Shinden, Buke, and Zen. Kinkaku-ji stands inside a picturesque Japanese garden, shimmering in front of the aptly-named Mirror Pond. In winter, in particular, the building sparkles against the white snow.
